Have a couple of questions about the tail panel. I have a Dynacorn piece but am thinking of getting the Ford stamping one instead.

1- Should I get the what they call Original Stamping or use what I have?

2- How tight to the trunk should the upper edge be?

I'm sure I'll have more.

Why are you thinking of getting another panel? What are you looking to gain? Something wrong with the one you have?

The one I have is screwed up. I just looked at it and it has a little ding in it and it caught on my shirt the other day and it looks to be bent. Need to replace it any way so I was wondering if one is better than another. And how close its supposed to be to the trunk edge at the top.

I would get one of the "Ford tooling" ones, they seem to have the proper amount of bow in them to match the trunk lid. IF the gaps on the rear of the car are good, use the trunk lid to keep the rear quarters in place, once you cut out the old tail panel the quarters can move in or out which will throw off your gaps, just use the trunk lid to keep them right then weld in the new panel.

by the way, and just in case you didn't know, the tail panel is supposed to be bowed in along the entire length of the panel, and I usually allow just enough gap between the trunk lid and the tail panel to get the tip of my little finger between them. if you get too much gap the latch won't fit right and if you get too little gap you can hurt the paint.

The ford tooling one isn't that much more $. What's another 30 ish bucks right? And as far as the gap between the trunk lid, width of the thickness of a ruler should be okay?

Don't confuse the proper bow in the panel for being bent. Many people don't realize they are not straight by design.

I've been wanting to ask about this panel as well, but had no idea what to call it. My painter pointed out a couple weeks ago that it is bowed in where the gas cap/filler tube attaches, and he was wondering how he was gonna straighten it out. Is it supposed to be bowed in there?

They have a bow to them that follows the shape of the trunk lid. They are not straight.
