In the thread about starting up a drive to build a Mustang Museum by the 50th anniversary, the idea came up to have the 50 most historic/significant Mustangs of all time show up in Birmingham next year (45th). Here's my start in no order:

How 'bout a couple of the general, run of the mill Mustangs? A 65-6 coupe with a 6, '69 302 sportsroof, a 71-3 coupe, which were the cars that really made this marque sell. The Hipo's and Shelby's are cool, but it was the "secretary's car" that was the true bread 'n butter.

These are great! How could I have not remembered the Lawman Boss?! Or the KR-8 (Taska '67 CJ)

1)That first Mustang with the mid-engine 4 cyl engineering concept car.
2) The Mustang II show car. Almost looked like the production 65.
3) the 65 fastback
4) the 69 Mach I
5) the 67 390 GT
6) any of those long nosed 66 funny car stangs
7) The 67 Malco Gasser 'stang
8) the 69 Shelby (doesn't it look like the 71's?)
9) the 74 Mustang II Ghia, yes Ford sold plenty

I dont think it was Austin, I think it was that Goldberg guy, he has a pretty large collection of cars.

Less known in North America but historically significant are the Mustangs raced in the European rally program (1964-1968). The cars were prepared by Holmann-Moody and Alan Mann Racing Ltd. in the UK. The Mustangs followed the very successful Falcon program. Tour de France, Monte Carlo etc.

Maybe we could have an auction where the winner gets to be #50 along with all the other 49 Mustangs. You know one of the people who bought a Unique Performance stang will drop some bills on something like that.

How about one that was extensively discussed here - the $5,000,000 convertible that the dealer claimed was "the first production car sold".

It should be on the list as an example of "Over-reaching hyperbole".
