THE List of Bad Repo Parts (AKA Repoop)

I saw a post here with a pic showing poorly fitting console parts and it got me thinking..."That MUST be one of those parts advertised as an "exact repo"...yeah right, but isn't that what they all say?!"

I don't think this has been posted before, so how about a list of Poorly made or Poorly fitting repo parts. If you have any you'd like to add, please do, including any info on the Mfg or supplier (pictures are always welcome!) so maybe this will prevent us from buying bad repo parts, and making the same mistakes, or maybe some suppliers may listen and demand better manufactured parts...although I think the former is more likely to occur, I can dream.

I can't believe the repo companies go through all the trouble of designing molds and then producing in mass quantities parts that don't even fit (I like to call them RePOOP, re reproduction crap!) It just defies logic.

Here is the start of my Repoop List:

Repoop fender/trunk "MUSTANG" letters with the mounting pins in the wrong place, so that when installed, the word MUSTANG isn't even LEVEL?!?!

Apron stampings that don't fit/have the wrong contour or badly shaped crease lines.

The two repo dash pads for the 67-68 stangs one has the wrong grain, the other repo doesn't fit right...feel free to add to this list!

I know some will say we should be glad for the aftermarket suppliers, but WE are the DEMAND ($) and that is why THEY SUPPLY, SO LET'S DEMAND QUALITY in the only language they understand, it's time to speak -$$$$$$!

Chevy motors. Definitely don't want one of these in your old Ford, especially if you ever want to see your distributor again. :pirate:

65-66

Hood lip molding
Battery Tops in the darker red/maroon lettering
Carpetting and carpetted floor mats (very very thin)
day/nite mirror (please)
some top boots (snaps don't line up) - My newest version from TMI with built in padding is GREAT, though.
My version of the TMI boot with built in padding WOULD BE great, though, IF the snaps lined up. As a result, IT IS NOT SO GREAT. Too bad they don't sell the boot with snaps in an attached bag so that they could installed by a trim person.

Add to my list:

The ABS plastic interior quarter trim panels for convertibles. The ears for the screws that attach it to the metal part are nowhere near the right place. And the lower ears are at the wrong "depth".

I wonder if NPD's fiberglass version is correct...

1967 Scott Drake inside mirror bracket/arm. The slot that the mirror fits into is about 20-25 thousandths too big. Doesn't matter if the mirror is oem or repro, it's too big for both. I'm afraid cranking on the screw to tighten it will break the arm. I had to sacrifice a .010 brass feeler gauge, punched two holes in it, folded it over and slipped it over the mirror tongue that fits into the bracket arm.

Someone mentioned the day/nite mirror is straight on the top and bottom making the mirror the same "width" from the end to the center. The original is wider in the center, giving a bit more surface area. In addition, the mirror glass itself is much smaller to fit inside the plastic housing, further decreasing the surface area. I don't know who the manufacturer of the mirror is.

I think alot of people are missing the point of this thread. Alot are not putting th ebrand of the parts that they are happy/unhappy with.

CJpony parts carries two quarter trim pieces for a 66. One is chinese and the other is listed as "Show quality". Anyone know who makes that one?

Seems price is not an indicator of quality anymore. You can have a part on Ebay thats cheap and good, while a catalog is selling garbage for twice as much due to their overhead. But you never know what your getting, and that is driving me nuts after getting into these old Mustangs.

The motive for this list is well meaning. I fear it's a lot like good intentions in politics...means nothing without accomplishing something! Example I got two distorted front 68 bumpers from MU. They were the "new" Nordan
they were bad no matter who sold them. Last year I got very good (fit and finish)front and
back 68 bumpers from NPD. They don't carry a brand name, are
they only from NPD? How would a person know?

I got lousey 68 convert top frame weatherstrip set. Was in plain clear plastic wrapper, have no idea who made it! Same with narrow 68 grill moldings and trunk
lid molding....lousy flimsy no fit, no name!

Scott Drake windshield and back window rubber is way too stiff for the 65-66. I just pulled a brand new set out and threw them away. We had a lot of trouble installing them and then had to beat the chrome on, ruining it in the process. I ordered Dan Carpenter rubber and new Classic Industries moldings. These went in with no trouble at all and the moldings clipped in very easy with no dings or dents. The moldings fit the car very well.

I've got to add one here again. A customer brought me Corvex brand sill plates for a 66. They don't fit at all. They don't have the "hump" at each end where it goes over the kick panel in the front and windlace in the back. If you try to make the hump, the aluminum starts to tear. I bought some Ford tooling ones from John's Mustang and they are much more like the originals, fit the car, and are polished way better than the Corvex brand. So far, everything Corvex I have used seems to be cheap junk.
