i took the mach out for a long spin the other day on one of our few 85 degree days in NY. and towards the end of my ride, the shifter wouldnt goin into reverse smoothly. i would have to force it and it would grind horribly. i would try disengaging the clutch a few times but it still grinded the gears. the tranny is original and has never been rebuilt. you think the fluid is bad?????
thanks

OK now help me out here. I get the sycro thing, but wouldn't it still grine going into first just like it does going into reverse if it was just a cluth not disegaging? There is no synco from nuetral to first right?

No... In this case the syncronizer puts enough drag on the clutch to stop it from spinning with the flywheel.

Wrong... On a toploader, all the forward gears are syncronized.
