Hello,
I have not posted much on this forum but had read some of the old info on the Towne Top hardtops for the early mustang.
First off are there members that have them? I have two of the Crown models with the black covering with the stainless bow. I also have one of the white models without. I did manage to find the exact material for the outside and also the headliner that looks similar to the cheap tarp material, lol. I have not found a source for the rubber seals. The flat side ones can be made using flat rubber material. Does anyone have a source for the key hole shaped material in front and back? Anyone have any new emblems? Any info or pictures of your top would help. I did get in touch with Mr. Murphy that wrote the article for MM. He could not believe that I found 7 and bought 3 of them, lol. Others were total basket cases and missing lots of trim. He did send me copy of the original sales report and one I have serial #1029 is earliest example he has seen. It was sold by TASCA Ford in Rhode Island when new. There was a paper tag under the headliner that had #13 written on it and thought to be the 13th. shell pulled from the mold. It will be years before my cars are ready for the top. I have way too many projects.
BTW does anyone know how the stainless strip comes off the top? I have not removed the headliner to see if it has nuts on the fasteners or it just clips on.
Thanks for any help or info,
I am located near Asheville in the mountains of N.C..

I have one of these Towne tops and have been trying to reach someone about additional info. My top was never assembled so I don't know if it was a prototype or one of the last unused tops. White/cream fiberglass top no vinyl, flat glass back window, wood cross framing, weatherstripping, no interior headliner but have aluminum bows and molding strips.
Looking for a tag under top with no luck, just pencil marking X01 whatever that means
