Tri-Bar Headlights...Disappointed

Up until today, I had only seen these head lamps online and through catalogs. I really liked the look of the clear ones with the blue dots and thought they would fit in great with the way I am taking my custom 66 coupe. For some reason I had thought the lenses would be copied after the traditional lenses and have the domed style lens. Instead they are flat and I'm not certain if that's what I want. ::

Does anyone know of a company that makes these tri-bar lamps in the clear AND a domed lens? The ones I saw today came from Scott Drake and look nice, but not exactly what I was looking for... I think...?

That is how the ones on my car are. I think they look great! Maybe you should reconsider and change your mind to 'like' them. I think they will look great on your vehicle...

I located three digital pictures of the tribars installed in my car. PM or email me with your email address (sometimes users use a false address in their profile) and I'll send them to you. Each file is about 400k.

Al the Tri-Bars I've seen are nearly flat, with only a slight dome. Not really noticable once they're on the car. I think the flatness actually HELPS the front end appear less "bug-eyed". I found a couple pictures of mine.

I noticed that "Southern Rod Parts" was advertising Tri-Bars at $60/pair in the new Good-Guys magazine (don't remember their url though)....

The Tri-Bars are flat, flat, flat. This does not impact their light emitting ability, but it does directly impact their ability to catch rocks (pun intended).

Mind you, I have not broken one in the year that I had them on the car.

On a side note: Beware the blue dot. One of my buddies just got a ticket for having the blue dot Tri-Bar lights on his car. In California the blue lights are illegal unless they are original equipment.

What is the appeal of "Tri-Bars"? It seems to me you can get a pretty bright light for a heck of a lot less.

Just curious why these items are so "hot"?

Not tri-bars these are the zenon bulb knock offs.

Factory with a dome:

New knock off with flat front:

Once they are installed you don't even notice they are flat. And the tri-bar or zenon knock offs are so much brighter it doens't really even matter...the benefit FAR exceeds the imperceptable styling cost

I felt the same as you when I first opened my box of new Tri-Bars. I felt they were too flat but I installed them and glad I did, what a difference. Now I can actually drive at night and see where I am going. a BIG difference. Well worht the effort and money. Well spent!
