Finally finished my tranny updates last night and fired up it!!! No drips, no leaks, no runs!!! I addressed all 4 of the major C4 leak areas:

Tranny Pan - upgraded to a Trick Flow deep pan. It has thick cast aluminum flanges all around and 1" thick bolt bosses. It also has a drain plug!!!

Dipstick - that dang O-ring was cracked, and the dipstick was kinda chewed up on the end - nothing a new chrome set wouldn't solve /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Cooling lines - what a mess!!! I had 65-style lines, which use hoses at the radiator end of both lines. In addition, both lines had been "patched" twice each, and the rear fitting in the case (the 90* one) was cracked and leaking. I used 66-style lines which are solid from front to rear with NO rubber hoses.

Seals - replaced the shift-shaft seal and rear seal.

It was all a PITA, as I had to drop the tranny mount, front crossmember, idler arm, disconnect the e-brake, and the exhaust just to get the lines out/in, but well worth it. I had a hard time finding the rear fitting, but a local place called "A & Red's Automatic Transmission Parts" finally had it- for all of $2.00!!!

Now, on to the other upgrades.........../forums/images/icons/wink.gif

That pan is a great lookin' piece... Too bad it goes where it can't be seen. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

That selector seal leak has plagued me in the past, much easier to wipe up a little type "F".

You ever have a problem blowing out ATF at hi-RPM's?

I agree - it's too purty to hide!!! /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

The depth is just right too - the headers are about 1/2" lower than the pan...... and I can change fluid now without making a mess!!! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Really off topic, but speaking of PITAs.... I was opening the work 'fridge this morning, and saw that someone had put in a few loaves of "Pain in the *ss bread"! I laughed myself silly.

...nice pan, though.

I'll have to look under your car to believe it doesn't leak. Maybe I'll do that if you come to the Topeka show June second. Don't look under mine, though!

I'm of the opinion that ignorance is bliss. I know if I go and fix one tranny leak, it will just leak somewhere else. First, it leaked at the radiator/lines connection, so I fixed it. Then the steel line rubbed a hole in itself by vibrating up against the steel engine/tranny plate. So, I fixed that, and then it started leaking from the pan. I fixed the leaking pan, and now it's leaking (it looks like) from where the lines go into the tranny case. I can't win!!!

Where did I put that T-5...

Well now knowing that its common for these tranny's to leak makes me feel better than mine haha. I just changed the fluid and with the new gasket and everything it still leaks. I got the expensive oil this time too (B&M I believe), so it sucks to watch that stuff leak out, but oh well!
