Ooh wat a good day today was....

....it started friday evening... I get a call from a colleague, he's asking me to accompany him checking out a yellow 72 grande. He comes over late at night and I quickly glance at the pics he took. He was going on and on about this car, like a madman. "It does have some rust at the wheelarches though" he said...I didn't spoil his day....

So, this morning another call...him again... If I wanted to go check out a 73 mach I. I (knowing this car as it was two streets away from me and having dreamed of it myself) off course say "sure, I'll go".

So, less then ten minutes later I find myself looking at the car better, feeling wheelarches, valances, checking cowls, etc. And then suddenly we get the keys to go drive it.....

After my colleague had driven for 5 minutes I direct him to a gas station and take over "cause I know the way to the body shop" (where my stang is undergoing repairs after it's unfortunate crash) and I knew my body guy would be there.

Well, getting behind the wheel of this 351 beast was quite an experience. It ran great, although the worn suspension made my own 66 feel a lot nicer of a drive then this beast was. I enjoyed it anyway.... Giving it a bit of play on the highway was great. But, I'll never forget the face of my bodyman... I parked out of site and then revved the engine, within 3 second he was outside and when he saw me his mouth fell open... I had to reassure him I wasn't ditching the car we had so carefully built the previous year....

Well, he looked it over and pronounced it good daily driver, so off we went again...

After returning this car, we went to look at the yellow 72 beast he'd been raving about the night before. It looked perfect right up to the rear. The rear itself was crust at best, needing wheelarches, tail light panel etc... But I also got to drive this 351 4v... And it was even better to drive then the 73 mach...but the rust meant a lot of costs were to be made to get the car beautiful...

We then went to a car dealer nearby, a mustang specialist... But mustangs are getting rarer, they are not as easy to find in the states anymore as they were three years ago, and what is left is either expensive or rubbish... So he only had five or so in stock.....

But, two of those were shelby GT 500 KR's and they were real for sure... One was unrestored and looked good, but in need of total restoration. The other was fully done..... And looked absolutely fabulous.... I'd never been this close to that kind of car before and they truly are something special....

So, at the end of the day I felt good about being asked as an "expert" or at least someone with more knowledge then the average guy. I think I did my job quite well... And seeing the real deal Shelby's was also great. And I wouldn't be surprised if monday a deal is done on the 73 mach I.

All in all a very good and enjoyable day...

Thanks for listening...
