What exactly do I need to build an Aod that can hold 800hp?
I've read just about all I can on the subject, but I am still confused.
I just built my first AOD for an import, and it really wasn't any harder than the C4's or C6's I'm used to.
I have a 1980 Aod. The problem I'm having is what EXACTLY do I need to hold 800hp?
From what I have read the one piece input shaft is mandatory, as well as bigger servo's, bands, and red line clutches. Also, if I go to a one piece input shaft, then I have to buy a custom converter, and loose my lock up capabilities...correct?
I know that I will have to change output shafts to a later model for oiling to the rear. What years will fit? Can I use one from a 4r70w?
I really don't want to convert to a 4r70w due to the electrical change over kit being beyond my budget. Can't I just buy upgraded AOD parts, or swap some from the 4r70w?
What about the mechanical diode? Do I need this, can it be swapped to the early AOD.
What about the cast iron drum on my tranny, can I upgrade to the stamped steel unit?
Also, I have been installing shift kits into C4's and C6's for years with no problem, and recently into the import Aod. Since I'm going to be using the one piece shaft I will have to go full manual vb {from what I have read}, how hard is this to build? Who makes the best kit?
