I pulled a 9 inch rear end from a hot rodded Pinto (ha) recently. I know the 9 didn't come out on a Pinto, but I am trying to figure out what it came from. It has the familiar C7 casting pumpkin. The measurement from flange to flange is 54.5". The measurement from spring perch to spring perch (centers) is 42.25". Any ideas???????

If your measuring center to center of pin hole, sounds like a 66-69 Fairlane/Comet station wagon or ranchero rear, they were same width as 67-70 Mustang but had narrow spring perch location (Mustang center to center are 43). Note: same year Fairlane/Comet sedans/hardtops also had same width, but there spring perches were located farther out than Mustang. Some of the late 50's Ford Wagons and Convertibles also had similar widths/spring perch locations- they would be hump less housings (no protrusion in backside).

If you got that "C7" casting from the outside of the pumpkin, then it's an 8" rear. The 9" rears have the casting number on the inside. you have to pull the pumpkin to see the numbers. Is there a tag on it with the ratio and other info?
