Ok, we have heard of the Granada brake upgrade, Mustang II rack and pinion steering conversion, 5.0 EFI, overdrive transmissions, and upgrading the seats from a newer mustang but what other upgrades have you done on your Mustang that consisted on using parts off newer cars in the junk yard??? Other things that come to my mind are power door locks, power windows, 3G alternator upgrades, and electric trunk latches but I know that there must be a lot more out there.

Yes you can hit the internet and find power window kits for $250, one wire 100 amp alternators for $100+ and so on and it is great that these parts are out there. But I am looking to be a little more hands on, having the sense of “creating something” and also maybe save a buck or two in the process.

For example, this weekend I found an electronic trunk latch off of a mid 70’s Ford that bolted right on to my 69, price = $10. I also picked up a 130 amp 3G alt off of a Windstar van for $25, still on the work bench though.

After I picked up my trunk latch I did a quick internet search and found DB’s Mustang web site http://groups.msn.com/DBsMustang/jyeprojects.msnw that has a bunch of good ideas, including the trunk latch conversion. BTW, it was this site that I got the phrase Junk Yard Engineering.

I know that there are a lot of smart, creative guys and gals on this forum so please share.

Duraspark, Mk7 rear Discs, clutch fan, rear defrost blower (mid 70s Cheby), F150 intermittent wipers, Mk7/Tarus/Intrepid electric fan, Versailles disc 9" (old school) "Shelby" drums from mid 80s Fords, Areostar Alum driveshaft, cruise control, modern AC & PS pump retrofits, cheap 15"-17" wheels from latemodels, donut spare, Hydroboost. Also latemodel Mach 460 stereo swap (now that I've gotten the chance to abuse a Mach 460 equipped car, I'm not convinced )

EDIT: Obviously I havent done all those, heck some are contradictory.
I'm sure there are some more JY mods that are even further "off the beaten path" :D

OK. Even though you already covered some of this.
78 LTD power trunk release. 95 Explorer power door lock motors. 88 Mitsubishi Starion leather seats (NOT a direct fit). 75 Maverick dual remote "Sport" mirrors (look like 70 Mustangs). Underseat courtesy lights from an 80's Town Car. A 3G alternator. A Mustang II floor console and emergency brake. A Town Car power antenna. A Tahoe (I think, it was swapmeet score)overhead console. Electronic compass and thermometer setup from a 98 Explorer fitted to the Tahoe console. 98 Mustang PBR dual piston calipers fitted to Granada spindles (to be discarded in favor of later 99 slightly larger calipers and 13" rotors versus the current 11" ones).
About it for now.
