Ok, we have heard of the Granada brake upgrade, Mustang II rack and pinion steering conversion, 5.0 EFI, overdrive transmissions, and upgrading the seats from a newer mustang but what other upgrades have you done on your Mustang that consisted on using parts off newer cars in the junk yard??? Other things that come to my mind are power door locks, power windows, 3G alternator upgrades, and electric trunk latches but I know that there must be a lot more out there.
Yes you can hit the internet and find power window kits for $250, one wire 100 amp alternators for $100+ and so on and it is great that these parts are out there. But I am looking to be a little more hands on, having the sense of “creating something” and also maybe save a buck or two in the process.
For example, this weekend I found an electronic trunk latch off of a mid 70’s Ford that bolted right on to my 69, price = $10. I also picked up a 130 amp 3G alt off of a Windstar van for $25, still on the work bench though.
After I picked up my trunk latch I did a quick internet search and found DB’s Mustang web site http://groups.msn.com/DBsMustang/jyeprojects.msnw that has a bunch of good ideas, including the trunk latch conversion. BTW, it was this site that I got the phrase Junk Yard Engineering.
I know that there are a lot of smart, creative guys and gals on this forum so please share.
