What makes Mustangs so timeless?

Simple, some men think fat women are attractive, me I prefer them skinny. I love the 64/65 Falcons but I have never seen a Falcon as pretty or as sexy as my Shelby.
Notice I’ve been comparing coupes vs hardtops the 2 cars that would be the bread and butter of the 2 lines. The 65-66 fastback is much better than the coupe, it’s always been a little odd in that it’s a blend of a very squared front with a very sleek and rounded rear. It’s kind of like a better executed early barracuda.

As others have said it’s all personal preference and most of us have all been exposed to the Mustangs history/image before. The only way to truly solve it is to take a Falcon and a Mustang to a remote tribe in Africa and ask for opinions on which is most likable, even then the Mustangs marketing still might have reached there.

i can’t see how anything other than marketing made someone walk on a lot and choose this

over this.

but anyways as others have said it symbolizes freedom and youth which, is what everyone wants.

The 64.5 - 66 Mustangs were just re-skinned 63 Falcons. I have two 66 coupes and one 65 fastback. If you pop the center cap off of a 66 Mustang horn ring, on the underside it says "Falcon". And I love everyone of them.

I'm aware of that, I have 2 falcon hardtops now and owned several more in my life. The interior room in the back seat and trunk of them is more spacious than my 69 mach 1. Looks are personal taste but Falcon Hardtop beats mustang coupe 11/10 times in the beginning years of 64-65.

As you said the underlying car is the same and the drivetrain is the same. So what made the better looking, more spacious, same drivetrain Falcon inferior to the Mustang?...... Marketing.

Honestly I think it's just culture defined the early Mustang as a symbol of cool, youth and freedom and that is what you buy when you own a Mustang.

I'll never understand why a potential car buyer in 1965 would have ever chosen a Mustang coupe over a comparable Falcon hardtop. The Falcon wins in looks, interior space and I bet price. The only logical explanation is marketing. That same marketing/branding is still there.
