I wanted to ask whick shock absorbers you would recommend on my 65 convertible with the 289 Engine.

Thanks.

If you're going expensive, the general forum recommendation is Bilstein street valved shocks.

If you're going cheap, my recommendation is the KYB Gas-A-Justs.

Finally! A thread about shocks! >:)

Seriously, this has to be one of the most covered topics ever. You could read for hours using the search function here and never set foot outside VMF's front door.

What the heck though, what's one more thread? It would be helpful if you stated what your current suspension is (bone stock?, worn/old?) and like cmefly asked, intended use.

You can read 4k threads on here about shocks; almost without fail anyone that has come back and complained about poor ride quality bought cheap shocks. Don't buy cheap shocks, your car and your ride quality will thank you for the investment.

Bilstein at a minimum is my recommendation. I have two examples to point to how important shocks are. Even the SCCA and their strict classing allows for shocks to be changed from stock, and race teams have "shock gurus" ... they don't have "spring gurus".

The right shock setup makes all the difference in the world, even on 50 year old cars.
