I just found a set of Coy's on Craigslist that are 18's staggered 8" in front and 9 1/2 in rear. Both are 4 1/2 backspacing. They would look good on it but I need to make sure before I invest in them.

Well, I don't much about big rims fitting early Mustangs, but I would guess if installed, it would be alot of pressure on the front spindles/seals and sure it would promote seal leakage and possible spindle damage. Not to mention the rear axle seal pressure. But, that would be something you will have to weigh out yourself.
If you get the centerline over the bearings, that will help a lot on wear. I don't buy into it being much worse than those of us running R compound or TD's on our vintage cars either.
What I'm not as won over by is the BS. You would be better with more BS on both ends to allow the car the ideal ride height and stance. Please double check these with a search on forum. I think you'll find bigger numbers to get them inside the fender lip better. Good luck
