Window grief

'66 coupe.

I've read all the articles, watched the You Tube videos, and messed with up/down stops and the bolts on the jamb. No matter what I do the top of the window when rolled all the way up leaves a gap at the front edge. The back of the window rolls into the top weather stripping as it should, but the front of the window comes 1/4" or more shy of the weather stripping. That is, it's enough for cold air and Oregon rain to enter.

The window rolls up and down easily, so the tracks are parallel. OK, it's tough to get it started down and seems to bind, but once it's past that initial resistance it goes down (and winds back up) easily enough.

Is the problem the wind wing? Or the rear quarter window? Or....?
Something is preventing the window from going up straight and contacting the top weather stripping uniformly across that top surface, but I'll be darned if I can figure out the problem or the solution.

Help??

With the window all the way down, is it flat and even compared to the top of the door? Or is the front of the window that same 1/4" below the top of the door? This may tell you if the whole window is moving up/down evenly or not.

With the window rolled all the way up and the door open, pull up on the front of the window. Does it come up that 1/4"? If it does, there may be something loose or worn inside, window regulator scissors, horizontal guide channels or rollers. I had loose and missing screws on the horizontal guide channel that fastened to the bottom of the window frame.

OK, when rolled all the way up I can pull on the front corner of the window and it does indeed come up that last 1/4" or so.

That suggests the front end of the track is sagging??

The PO installed a new regulator in an effort to fix this problem. When it didn't he gave up and parked the car (other reasons, too). That is, the problem isn't a bad regulator.

Does one of those bolts on the door hold the front of the regulator, and is it adjustable?
Other thoughts?? Like stick a pencil in there as a bushing. :)

When you pull up, can you see where something is giving way, flexing? Repop regulator, or 'new' original used unit? If the regulator is in fact nice and tight, no slop, and you've made all adjustments, you may need to modify the small track to give you more lift. It's the small 5" piece that has 2 bolts just aft of where the armrest goes (G in the pic). Those holes can be hogged out a little so that you can move that track further down, causing the front to raise more. This is assuming of course you've got everything else adjusted properly.

GT350SR...

Helpful illustration! I'm printing it out for reference as I go back to it later.

When I pull up on the window nothing is giving way or flexing. It's clear that I'm pulling the front of the window up out of its track. That's why I suspect it's the track mounting.

I'll report back.

I messed with it for an hour or more late this afternoon and decided the problem is that the front track doesn't fit snugly against the window. That allows the front edge of the window to sag as it's raised.
I tried adjusting the wind wing to move that track but it didn't really work. I think it's a little better but there's still a gap.

I now *think* the problem is a bad repop regulator. I'll live with it for now. The gap isn't enough to let rain in because of the roof overhang. In the spring I might try getting a new regulator from NPD. It's my daily driver, not garage jewelry, so as long as it functions reasonably well....
