This may or may not be the correct forum, but I think I will get more results here. So please bare with me. It does involve very similar parts.
Yesterday, my wife took our 1966 Ranchero to work. It was early morning and there was dew on the windshield. I hit the switch for the wipers and nothing was happening. They worked normally in the past, and IIRC the were 2 speed.
I checked the fuses, they were good.
When my wife got home the wipers started working again, only this time in slow motion and at only one speed.
Has anyone else have this problem before?

I recently had a problem with my wipers not returning to proper position when the switch was turned off. Thanks to some replies about the topic, I became aware how important the fluid squirter pump is to the entire circuit operating properly (which I had removed). Someone (apologize can't remember who - think it was Paul) explained to me that if I jumped the 2 black wires, it would work w/o the pump trigger switch. So I did and it works great now. I realize different problem, but just thought worth noting to not rule out something going on with that possibly overlooked aspect of the system. In your case though sounds like maybe of the terminals connections under the dash may be needing pushed backed together. Just a guess.

Are you asking about your Mustang or Ranchero? I dont have a wiring diagram for the Ranchero (unless you have a link to one). Generally you can disconnect the motor from the switch and test them independently using jumper wires to isolate which component is at fault.

If you have a link to a good wiring diagram I can help you do some testing. Let me know.

Will-E do you have a 67/68? That was 67/68 exclusive.

I have a wire manual for the 66 Ranchero. I just thought I would try and get a direction of where to look for the problem.
It just seems weird that it would not work, then 1/2 azz kind of work in slow motion.
The wiring is NOT all chopped to hell under the dash. Every thing looks like it did before this problem.
Do wiper motors die immediately, or do they fade out?
Thanks for the help everyone.

Im not sure if you are being sarcastic or ? Im trying to help you and made some suggestions.

IF the wiper motor is going bad electrically (windings, etc) it could run slowly or not at all. Also a issue with high resistance in the wiring or a bad ground could cause the motor to run slowly. It doent need to be 'all chopped up' to have problems.

Or the motor could have a mechanical issue such as one of the shaft bushings has dried up and is causing the shaft to bind up. Or you could have an issue with the wiper linkage binding up - you would need to disconnect the motor from the linkage to see if it then turns freely.

Good luck (no sarcasm)

No, I wasn't being sarcastic sorry. I know you are trying to help, and thank you. I don't have a scanner to get the schematics posted. I just wanted people to know the harness was in good shape, and not messed up by previous owners.
I will re-check all the grounds, and wiring first.
I am more used to things breaking, being broken, and not working at all. It frustrates me when there are intermittent problems, things working when they want to.
I will dig into the schematics now. I will also check the other things you mentioned. Thanks.
