As discussed in another of my posts...I'm going to get my shifter hole repaired next weekend so I removed the console and cut away some carpet.

After doing so I notice two possible issues that I can correct after the shifter hole is welded. and before I put in the new carpet.

1. If I understand correctly, the center console front bracket should be placed under (not above) the carpet?

2. The bracket itself looks a bit off center...I never noticed it while driving should I be concerned? I hate to drill more holes when not needed. But now would be the time to correct the issue!

It should be under the carpet and off-center. It won't line up with the shifter when mounted on-center. If it all lines up, it's in the right place. Just cut a slot in the carpet to stick it through if you want it to be 'correct'. The bracket stabilizes the console so it won't flex.

The bracket was not in the center of the hump.

There were two dimples in the floor panel where the console bracket went.

Factory installations had a flap cut in the carpet for the bracket. 30 seconds with a box cutter and you are there. Do it. Otherwise, the console will be shoved up against the dash worse than it already is.
