Still searching for a 100% rust free 1969 Mach 1 project.
Must be completly 100% rust free only - not a rusted then repaired car.
Must be a Mach 1
Must have free and clear title in sellers name and all matching VINs (title/dash/aprons).

Besides that, I'm open to anything from a bare shell to a basket case to a reasonably priced rust free driver.

That is kinda like looking for a unicorn. These were built with rust on day one. I have seen some incomplete projects on e/b/a/y/ recently. They had just been through all the body work, and some new paint. It goes without saying, I would recomend looking at them in person before you buy. My stang had new metal in it, crappy metal, installed half a$$ed. If I personally see one, I will let you know. Untill then I wish you good hunting and hope you find a good one.

Yea - I agree its a long journey. Believe it or not, I almost have exactly what I want sitting in my garage - except its a F code fastback. I have finally saved enough $$ up to start my project - sending it to the body shop for the minor repairs it needs. I decided not to use it. Its the ol Mach1 vs non Mach1 thing I have struggled with since I bought the car. I've decided if Im sinking big $$ into my dream, its gonna be a Mach1. Therefore the dynacorn is out too. Im being picky I know!! I'll be patient, the search is fun too!

Other peoples body work scares the hell out of me. I want to take it to a trustworthy shop I know and start from scratch so I KNOW its done right.

btw - wtf is up with all the cars out there with no titles? Thats so crazy!! It seems 50% of the cars out there either have no title, or the seller is trying to title skip (open title from person he bought it from to save taxes). I am walking away from these cars! If I pay good $$ for a car, the VERY FIRST thing I do is title it in my name! Then I invest in it.

This is most likley going to start some kind of agrument, but here goes.
Do you have a Marti report. I ask because, I did not know somethings before I bought my car. That a marti report revealed. I also have a F-code. My car had an option called the Sports Appearance Group, (SAG). It is a rare, early 1969 option that included racing mirrors, hood scoop, possible slats, spoiler front and back, and most of the mach 1 stylings, but different stripes. This was an early sales promotion by Ford. Sorta like the Cali Specials, Twister specials. They only made just over 5,700 of these. In the future who knows if these will be of any collector value. In comparison. about 78,000 mach 1's were made in 1969, and only something like 56,000 Sports roofs that were not mach 1's. These are not exact numbers. The point is that your car and mine is technicaly rarer than a mach 1. The nice thing about an F-code is that you can do whatever you want to them. If you modify it, no one minds. You could hurt the value of a R-code car if you changed the color, rims, stance, etc. You could potentialy increase the value of your F-code with the correct mod's. I see it all the time on B/J auctions, where a resto-mod, modified, or clone car can sell for thousands of dollars above what the same car would have sold for, if it was stock. Sometimes they sell for more than a R-code, if done right.
Anyway.
Why get hung up on a decor option. Make it a clone if you want too. In the future any mustang is going to command good money, because they are only getting more scarce. I think, in the distant future, the cars options are going to become less of a factor reguarding prices. People will just want one and not care about it being a different color, or having a different engine than what was original.
If you just have to have a peice of paper that says it's real mach 1, then get one. The previous owner put mach 1 stripes on my car. It is very rare for someone to ask me if it's a real mach 1., and most would'nt know the difference anyway. Do what makes you happy, But dont forget how lucky you are to have one.
Even if it isnt a real mach 1.

I know - its a tall order! lol. But why not look!! BTW - I need to clearify. All I need rust free is the unibody. I have all the bolt on stuff so it can be in any condition, or missing!

Sag, I really do have to agree with you. But for some reason I just want to do this to make my inner self feel better about it. Funny thing is, Im still going to do it all wrong (completly but tastefully modded). My Marti doesnt show the sag - just convienance group, clock, fold down - thats about it!

If I cant find what Im looking for in a few months - I'll prob go ahead and send mine to the shop. Then its no return.

Tall order indeed.

I bought my first Mustang in 1977, a 66 Coupe. It lived in Oklahoma until 1967 then San Diego CA to the present day. (I still have the car, bought from the original owner)

In 1981 it had small rust bubbles forming in the front corners of the doors.

Most of the Mustangs I saw back then had those rust bubbles. That seems to be the very first place rust formed on these cars. I hope you can accept that much rust at least.

I am...lol. I am finding I need to find a "minimal rust" car....lol. But to reiterate, I only need a rust free unibody. I have ALL the bolt on sheetmetal - so that should help I hope!

Im still searching, ready to jump if the right car comes along at a decent price! Actually Im hoping it comes aling after Jan 01 because I have more vacation time then and I can travel to inspect the right car!
