I posted a month or so ago questioning about X & H pipes.
My son desided to have an X pipe installed at one of our local muffler shops. He has Flow Master 40's, and you can hardly hear yourself think going down the highway.

After the installation of the X pipe ($80), we were both amazed at what a difference it made in sound improvment and acceleration! We can even hear what each other is saying now without having to yell at each other. The outside roar is still great, but the mellow sound inside is what has really sold me on them.

Have one installed!!!! You won't be dissapointed!

They built it themselves.
I had stopped by there the day before asking if they made them and they said yea, all the time, and he showed me one for 3" pipe they had made and went into a little detail how they make them.
It sure beats paying JEGS $100 to then turn around and pay the muffler man to install it.

X pipes are not that hard to build at home. I have seen many for sale that I believe mine put to shame.

A view from the inside:

I simply used two mandrel bends and sliced them with my chop saw.

The rest of the system was comprised of the Flowmaster tailpipes, Dynomax mufflers, and mandrel bends that I butt welded.

When I did my H pipe, I made sure that it was far enough back behind the tranny tailshaft so that when I change clutches I do not have to drop my exhaust. Ideally it is best to have it as close to the exhaust manifold as possible, but I hate dropping headers/exhaust to take out a tranny. .02 worth

Welcome to the X-Pipe Generation ::

There truly is real-world sound benefits and performance gains you recieve from a properly installed x-pipe over an h-pipe.

Good deal - I'm happy for you and your son ::

yes, i noticed much of the same when i had an x pipe installed into my exhaust system. no more droning with my 40 series flows here either, and sounds great in the higher rpm's, it always sounds as if im spinning more than i really am. great higher pitch sound to it.

I installed the Magnaflow thru X, polished stainless system about 1 month ago. I highly recomend an X pipe, love the sound, and butt dyno feels a noticeable power increase. :highfive:
