Just a quick question, does all of the 1965 200ci i6 cylinder heads all have different cast numbers on them? For example, mine says C5DE-6090-A. If I were to get a different cylinder head off of another mustang 6 cylinder mustang, would the cast number be diffrent? Are there multiple 6 cylinder heads with the same casting number? Thank you

there are a few different casting numbers, but the heads are all the same year for year. essentially all small log heads are the same, or similar enough that if you swap them they work the same. same with the large log heads.

if you are thinking of building a numbers matching engine, then you just need a head that was cast before your car was built, not after.

Thanks for your reply. The reason I'm wondering if all 65 cylinder heads each have a diffrent number is because I recently payed someone $400 for a new head and the new head has the same number as the old one. It also has the same welded crack in the center of the cylinder head as the old one did as well, so I think I've been tricked. It looks like he cleaned up the cylinder head and resold it to me. I'm just looking for differences in the cylinder heads.

Yes, the casting number is actually the engineering number. Virtually all 1965 200 cylinder heads would have had that same number, and many 1966 200 heads may well have, although it's harder to find info about 6 cylinder heads.

The "C5" means 1965, the "D" means the Falcon Group paid for the engineering, the "E" means it's an engine part, the "6090" means it's a cylinder head, and the "A" indicates the engineering version, in the case of an A the first one.

You best bet would be the date code. It is highly unlikely that both heads would have the same date code. $400 is very high for an I6 head unless he was doing a lot of machine work on it. I regularly see whole I6 engines selling for $100 - 400

The C5DE-6090-A head was used on '65 170's and 200's. There was also a "-B" revision used. That means that of the hundreds of thousands of '65 Falcons, Comets, Mustangs, and Econoline's small sixes your chance of getting another head with the same casting number is probably something along the lines of 90+%....
