More like a Targa top.... That did a LOT for structural rigidity. I hope they "convertibleized" the chassis.

It's amazing what's done on today's vehicles.

I 2010 I found a mint condition loaded 2002 V6 Escape. It was a one owner always garaged Texas car (Fort Worth area). My main concern was it had the factory power sun roof. It's now 11 years old, works faultlessly and doesn't leak a drop. If it's 40F and not raining my wife opens the sunroof to it's venting position, if warm opens it more. I can't imagine that sunroof being more reliable and no leak if it was on a Lexus!

The sunroof on my '98 Sunfire never leaked even after 14 years of daily driving and never being garaged. I wish I had a sunroof on my current vehicle...but not like the Mustang in the ad. :}0

 

I may be wrong but looking closely that doesn't look like a traditional t-top (two parts with one bar running between them) so much as it looks like a sports roof (whole roof comes off in one piece). Of course the 2x4 is kinda in the way so hard to tell.

 

Agree, looks like full width insert. Even if it has complete vert structure that would be trouble! On a vert the top can flex with minimal problem. If that baby flexes it's gonna have leak and noise issues. Whatever holds that top insert in place can't take the place of a one piece top.

Unless I'm reading too much into this wordsmith's message- The windows roll down automatically just fine, but to put them up you have to trigger the alarm? That sounds like a real neighbor pleaser right there.

Plus who is liable if you attempt to cut a thief in half with this guillotine-based anti-theft system?

 

In Portland back in the early-mid '80s there was a ratty Wimbledon '67 GT350 with T-tops I'd see occasionally. It might have seemed like a good idea at the time, but I doubt it.

 

Looks like money was spent in all the right places. Removable top, alarm, remote car starter. Yep, I would do all of those things before body and paint.

 

Oh and what happened to the air cleaner's bottom half and filter element? It looks like only the top part is fastened down on top of the carb. Must breathe real well like that.
