Hey guys. Could somebody help me out. I got a 68 fastback that came with the "original" 289 engine. The block has an id/vin number stamped on the back of it on the top, and its only off by 3 numbers from the vin of the car. Is there a chance that this could be an original even though the numbers aren't identical?

It's probably the original engine. I'd find it hard to believe that the
original engine was gone and replaced with another 289 that
by some miracle had a vin # stamped into it that was 3 digits off.

It's a C8AE block? What plant built the car? I've never seen a '68
289 with a vin...... mine doesn't have & it's one owner.

I'm thinking it was maybe an assembly plant deal. Mine was built in Metuchen and
no vin on the block.

Just curious: what is the 'Sch Date' on you door data tag and what is the engine assembly date stamped on the front of the block? (see arrow in example pic below for location)
