351w with 302 firing order?

What does it mean if my 351 windsor has a 302 firing order? Would that mean that it has a 302 crank? If so does this make any sort of difference performance wise?

Thanks,
Brett

The 260, 302, & 351w all accept the same cam. They just have different firing orders. Therefore if you find the specs you like you can change the firing order to match your cam. In my case i got a deal on a 302 cam so i took it and changed the firing order.

Supposedly they changed the firing order on the W to revise main bearing loads but I've never seen any marked difference in durability in any of the performance engines I've been involved with. With either order, the engines spin easily into the 7K+ range with no service or maintenance issues.

As the others mentioned, the cam is ground differently, for the 302 firing order. Performance-wise, if the cam is a good grind for your application, IMO it will make no difference than if the same grind had the W firing order.

The only possible difference I can think of is that you might get a slightly different natural harmonic from an OEM balance engine. Can't prove that one though *G*

Cammachinist is right, they claim that they revised it to go easy on the crank on the bigger motor. The real reason why performance cams are in 302 order though is cost, one cam on the shelf fits all Windsors from 221-351, why have an oddball 351 only on the shelf? I have seen no negative effects with the 302 cam, by the way, we ran a 351W with basically stock internals for 2 years in a mud bogger Jeep CJ-5 with 38 inch tires and nitrous THEN pulled the motor and got 3 more out of it in a shop truck with no rebuild. The lower end stayed together fine.
