Hi All, first time posting so I appreciate your help. I thought I read somewhere on one of the forums that you could lower your engine location by using convertible motor mounts in the coupe cars. Can anyone verify if that is true? Any other suggestions are appreciated. I have a 5.8 efi GT40 from a ford lightning that I am trying to tuck under the stock hood. Thx for your help.

Hello/Welcome
I believe there are several manufacturers that make adjustable/drop engine mounts for that chassis. The main issue is oil pan-to-steering linkage clearance.

I am actually surprised that hood clearance is your issue considering the height of the stock carburetor and air cleaner. I would have though that upper manifold-to-shock tower brace clearance would be the major issue. Do you have the engine mocked up in the engine bay?

Thanks
Paul

The main issue is oil pan-to-steering linkage clearance.
When I lowered my 351W the only interference was with the engine crossmember. The oem crossmember is deep enough, but the angled drop contacts the pan edge. I made one to fix the problem.

5.8 (IE, Gen 1) Lightnings were not supercharged. Basically a regular roller cam 5.8 engine but they used a flat tappet cam instead. Also GT40 iron heads and a unique upper and lower intake. Which won't fit under a Mustang hood but the F150 guys will sure pay good money for them. Almost enough to pay for an intake setup that will fit AND offer better performance.
So basically you can duplicate a Lightning engine with any regular 5.8 out of a van, work truck, or whatever by slapping better heads and intake/s on it.

The 5.4's were the supercharged ones, yes. The Lightning/F150 folks also have their forums where such is discussed in more detail than you'd ever want to know.
Incidentally the 351W ones were factory rated at 240HP. Gosh wow, right? The 5.4 supercharged ones were 360-380 HP, depending on who you ask.

I dropped my 351W down 1" and back a bunch with some knocked off RM mounts. The 1" down makes for some interesting fitment issues with the steering linkage, and even more fun with a Unisteer Rack. I ended up remanufacturing the rack mount to fit. Here are some crunchy pictures of when I first mocked up the trans and block for driveline angle and tunnel clearance checks.

I have RM mounts, which is typically a 1/2" drop. With your mod, is it now a 1- 1/2" drop? How was header fitment? I had to lower my R&P 1/2" due to my lowering RM mounts.
