I would have to look at mine but i think the washer you have on first belongs on the other side of the inboard side of the switch right next to the pushrod.

 

Sorry guys. Not the most interesting post. So per the link that Brian posted, it looks like there’s a nylon washer on each side of the switch. And that is my point, the stack is too wide on my set up and the pin hole is obscured which made me think I was assembling it wrong. I guess I can just trim down the washers. I don’t know

As long as you have the bushing that goes in the switch to keep it 'snug' on the shaft, and the switch pivots freely, you're fine. I've had it both ways before- some switches needed 2, some 1. You just don't want the switch to be too loose and walk around on the shaft

 

Thanks. I’ll go with one bushing on the outside then. But just here’s the vid I was talking about. This guy says in order for the switch to work there has to be slop about the shaft.
