Howdy forum! :pirate:

What I have is a '67 Mustang with the 390 and 3 speed top loader. When I bought the car it had a C6 so none of the equalizer bar linkages were there. So I'm now putting the original 3 speed top loader back in it.

What I can't figure out is how is the clutch fork held to the threaded rod coming off of the bottom side of the equalizer bar. I have this bullet looking thing that fit perfectly into that dimple in the clutch fork, but I can't figure out that stays there. :0/

I tried an open internet search as well as a VMF search and I got close, but no banana.

I'm attaching a couple of pictures so you can see the parts in question

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

it stays there because when you have the clutch adjusted properly it cant fall out. i used a 67-up bb mustang clutch fork and that bullet thing on my 66 station wagon. if you want to see something even more tripped out look at the little dimple on the fork on a 65-66 mustang fork.

The heavy duty spring is all that holds it on? Oh boy.
no , when you have it adjusted properly it stays in place with or without the spring. once you get it in place and and about 1" of clutch pedal play you will find that it will not fall out. that indentated hole and that bullet cant come apart. all the spring does it pulls the fork back to keep the throw out bearing from touching the pressure plate fingers when the clutch is engaged.

Actually, the big assist spring under the dash has nothing to do with it. To keep the lower rod from rattling, there is a lightweight spring between the release lever and the lower arm of the equalizer.

@supershifter2: muchas gracias senior. I'll find out once I get all the major pieces in the car then.
@PetesPonies: I think I've got that 3rd one down.
@22GT: I put that blue spring from the engine bay side of the firewall to the top end of the equalizer bar. Guess I put that in the wrong spot? I don't have the big heavy spring on yet, does that go under the dash? From where to where?

I'd like to get a 4 speed later but I'm going for getting her back on the road. Original block, bell housing, transmission and rear end, kind of magical...although I did go for 3.75 gears and a limited slip diff.

I was looking for a 4 speed for awhile but just couldn't find one in my price range either rebuilt or not. I got the 3 speed rebuilt with a clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing and pressure plate for less than $1600.

The spring at the top of the equalizer, to the firewall bracket, is this one-

The firewall bracket-

The heavy assist spring goes under the dash, with a nylon bushing on the hook at each end. One end goes on the hook at the top of the clutch pedal, and the other goes on the hook bolted to the pedal support.

Installation is detailed here. People have done some crazy dangerous things to get the assist spring on. Be safe. You should be able to to it safely and easily, using this link-

You should convert your pedal support using the roller kit. It will eliminate the high-wear nylon bushings, and make the clutch much easier to operate.

There is also a kit that includes the clutch pedal shaft, if yours is damaged.

@22GT - Ah ok, the pieces are falling into place there. Ya the blue spring I have attached to that firewall bracket.

I have that big heavy spring and the little white plastic bit. I'll see about getting that on there without taking out my eye

I also have a roller kit but couldn't figure out how to wrestle the pedals out of there.

@PetesPonies: Yep my clutch fork has that spring on the back side of it.
