I just noticed the #2 and #3 convertible top frame bows are different. They are the same size, but one holds the felt pads a few inches more to the inside.

Anybody know which is which?

Also, any idea as to where I can get the felt pieces the fit on the ends?

Thanks!

the bow closest to the front of the car has the shorter felt pad. wes
The shorter pad? Just recently put new top (DIY) on my original top frame keeping the original pads. What are you referring to Wes?

Thanks Wes, are those felts available, any tricks how to make them?

not talking about convertible top pads but the short felt pads at the ends of top bows 2 and 3. wes
Wes and all, I apologize. Had my 68 since 77, has the original top pads etc. Have the Ford shop manual and the Osborn assembly manuals. Where is this felt shown? Thought mine is/was complete, evidently not!

Tom, the ends of bow #2 and #3 (not bow #1 - header, or bow #4 ) There are felt pieces that are screwed into the bows from the top.

Thanks. Yes I know #2 and #3 and yes those do have the screwed in felt. Never compared #2 and #3 because they were never apart. So are we saying #2 and #3 are same except for the felt?

Bow #2 and #3 are different sizes. #2 50 1/4" across the widest part, uses a 6" section of pad. #3 is slightly longer, 51 3/4" and uses a 7" pad (at least on the few tops I measured, 68's, interested if someone finds different dimensions).

But they do have the same cross section. At least on the tops I have seen.

Originals should have a recess at the tip where the side pad laps, change in curvature, see below.

Dynacorn repros are slightly different sizes 50 1/2" and 51 1/2" and have no recess.

I have not come across a source for the felt, one could use carpet underlayment of the appropriate thickness cut 1/2" wide. 3/8" works Ok, if you use 1/2" it needs to be trimmed over the plate for the screws or it sits too high...
