On my base 69 convertible, I'm getting ready to finish my 2.5" system from the tranny-back. Here's how I want to finish:

I bought the proper valance & the muffler back pipes. They're on the way. The exhaust shop will be installing all this, including mufflers. Now to find the tips:

I found these on Pypes website, that says they are for 67-69 MACH 1, and wonder if anyone is running them. Interestingly, the rolled edge set is cheaper?

And here's a pic on Pypes website for their non-rolled (on the Pontiac I'm guessing cuz the differential cover). Were factory tips rolled? I think the rolled looks better.

I bought a pair of no-name tips at a swap meet and found them to be way too wide for the openings in my valance. Something to look out for. No idea the opening sizes on Pontiacs.

I have the rolled ones on my 68 (because it's correct). I have the straight ones on my 67. I'm happy with both of them. View attachment 946596
Are those "Pypes" brand or the more expensive brand? I think I see the dents on those non-rolled ones (on the ground in your picture) as well. Did you do that?

Also, there may be a difference between the 68 and 69 valance. These two United Pacific units look different with regard to the depth of the recess for the tips, but it could just be camera angle. Anybody know?

69 top, 68 bottom.

I bought a set of the Scott Drake if anybody needs some. I am thinking they are 2” inlet. .
I am running a 3” exhaust and was going to modify them, but then realized even with the 2 outlets, it would end up a choke point.
I ended up making a set with I think 2-1/8” tubing. Worked great and they fit the factory valance.

IIRC 20 yrs ago when I did mine at a custom shop, found mounting distance info in 67 shop manual, as to how far they should stick out. My NOS rolled tips I bought of friend the had long time, not going to use.
Noting my pic view of underneath showing my orig Ford "shipping brkt" that I still have. They were longer for factory dual exhaust stangs (the S&K code cars). Dealers were suppose to remove and send back to factory, many didn't.

What hangers do I need to do this conversion? Here's my current left and right. Car was single pipe from the factory. Looks like both of these styles are wrong for the dual quad setup. I think I'll trim those lower shackle bolts flush with nut.

That looks close to the blue picture in my last post. I'll do something close to that. I notice on yours that they're not tucked up in the valance like the green & yellow. Do you know if they were tucked tightly from factory, or more like yours and the blue pic?

I found Ford Shop manual pdf on my pc. If I can't get it to copy to hear, it's on page 616 in mainual. Gives equal clearance arond tips to valance as I mentioned earlier.

IF I read correct, has 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" clearance out.
Then 5/8" - 3/8" clearance tips to valance.
IF I read correctly

Just got back from the muffler shop (completed the 2.5" re-pipe to the back and put Flowmaster Super 40's on [too loud for me I think but I'll live with them for a bit]). BTW, I bought the Flowmaster muffler-back kit for $191 on Amazon and they fit fine. Here's how she looks with the Pypes tips ($109 set at Summit as of this writing). I preinstalled the hangers like @gregb and the pipes fit easy in the space.

I think they're sticking out too far. I'll probably push these in another .75", and I may shave the valance a little so they don't touch.

So here's the full scoop on the 2.5" Pypes tips: They're very nice quality polished stainless and workmanship is first rate. This pic angle makes it look like they get wider at tip, but that's not true. They are exactly 5.125" wide at the valance opening so they don't tuck all the way up in there. Each pipe tip is 2.25

This $109 set doesn't come pre-dented for shackles & gas tank clearance. You have to pay $196 more for the dents (like the quite unjustifiably high priced $305 dollar CJ Pony ones). So I torched and bashed on them for 10 minutes.

I'm pleased with the outcome. The fact that they don't tuck up in there doesn't bother me as it stands right now, but again I may shave the valance to improve clearance. In fact, viewing from a standing position, it's not even noticeable.
