that is reasonably priced, good quality, and doesn't require a bunch of modifications.. I have a 67 fastback, stock 289, T-5 with late model bell housing. I also have the power steering bracket that lowers the slave cylinder so that's not a big deal. I see a bunch on Ebay and can't tell the differences.

Thanks,
Jim

I have ceramic coated tri-y's I put on 13 years ago. They are quite reasonably priced.

They still look great. The steering pitman arm did put a minor dent in it.

I bought them from NPD.

I've got patriots on mine. Works great but the ceramic wrapping on the bottom part sucks! Mine literally chipped off. Not sure if the beach area played a part of it, but I've had ceramic headers in the past and never done this before. But like I said, still works!

We bought the tri-y headers from eBay. Mounted on a 289 with t5 with modern bell housing, hydraulic clutch, borgeson steering, mini starter in a 66 coupe. No fitment issues other than I needed to cut one of the lca bolts down about 1/4 inch. That likely was not even necessary if I end up needing to add shims when we get it aligned. We haven't driven it yet so I have no other information other than they seemed to be good quality with thick flanges.

This is the only pic I have.

Never got any "out of the box" Shelby-type Tri-Y's to fit. The ones from
California Mustang were an absolute joke.....
I've got hybrid Tri-Y's from Doug Thorley on my '68. (289Y) They've been
on there at least 12 years. I think their catalog notes say manual trans
only but whomever designed these things obviously was mocking up with
a scattershield because they even fit a small block truck C6.
You will want to opt for a small diameter starter or a permanent magnet
starter.

Jim Cowles from Shelby Parts and Restorations in Green Bay WI sells Tri-y's that are an exact copy of the ones that were on the '65 & '66 GT350's. They fit perfectly with no hitting of anything, not the pitman arm or bellhousing or anything else. You don't have to change the starter out either. The stock Ford starter will work fine with them too, no need for a mini starter.

You get what you pay for. They cost a grand.

Thank you for all the options.. The last thing I want to do is modify something that is supposed to fit… But.. I may not have a choice. Oh well. BiffStroganoffsky, those look good.. Maybe I won't have to modify?

I can't tell you with certainty as I am still running my stock toploader with the 289 and PS. I did have to shorten my clutch release rod to keep from hitting the tube but that was about it. The Speedway unit had a thicker flange and better welds than my previous headers from the early 90s. I seem to remember having to bang on that unit a bit and redoing the H-pipe to get the collectors to align so I was happy when the new units bolted right in. The headers came with decent gaskets and stainless fasteners for the heads.

the only tri-y set i had to install was on a 73 vert that i had intalled a t-5 in it, patriot was what i used, and it was perfect fit and reasonable price. like 160.00 if i remember correct.

I got the scott drake stainless in my 66. Had to grind a chunk of the c4 bellhousing to fit. Bellhousing was new aftermaket sp that may have had something to do with it. Need lowering arm for PS. If you go long tube make sure you weld lowering arm in. Use bolts to line up but run a bead on it. I did not do that on my 70 and fortunately I notice the bolts had pulled out before any damage or harm occured.

So with the "modern bell" I guess you didnt use any of the original z-bar set up? About how much lower are those than the rest of the car?
They look like a bargain at twice the price.
FWIW I have had the cheap Ebay Stainless headers and I am on my third year. Great headers, no issues and no leaks. T5 with modern Bell and a Unisteer manual rack.

$170 shipped!
