Chrome around windows...

I've done a bit of a search and most of the people talking the chrome off around the windshield and rear window were usually taking those windows out... I'm trying to NOT take those windows out...

Given that, how should I get that chrome off? Screwdriver and just pry it off? or is it more complicated than that? I'd like to just put the chrome back on after painting... I'll mask the glass that's there off so it doesn't get painted of course, but I don't wanna go to all the trouble.. the windows appear to be good and sealed, no use in messin' that up.

You should have a propere tool to take it off as it bends easily. There are clips about every 8 inches that snap/hook into the chrome strip sometimes you can get a small flat screwdriver to catch the lip and release it.Once you get a couple off the rest becomes easier as you just have to twist the strip a bit, being careful not to get a twist in it that stays there though. Start at the joint by removing the short piece that covers it.This should be in the center at the bottom. At least that is where it is on the 65 and 69. Rear windows, front I think are the same. It is the best place to start the removal.

When I did my chrome, I realized that one of my neighbors borrowed my tool, so I used a brake adjusting tool, just slip it under the chrome and gently pry it up. It worked fine for me.

do you know what the actual moulding clip looks like, the work is the same as if you were taking a window out pretty much. i think if you knew what the clip looked like under there, you could see exactly what you are trying to do. its hateful, esp. if theve never been off. take your time,as mentioned it bends awful easy. later

There is a tool for this. It's shaped like a "T" with sharp pointy ends to get under the clip and then pry it off of the lip that the moulding catches on. A good parts store will likely have it or a body shop supply house. Should be less than $20.

What do you know about solid metal pieces anyways? :p

But I can take the chrome off (and subsequently put it back on) without having to mess any other bit with the windows themselves....
