Cross member touching Oil Pan

Hey guys, I just installed a new oil pan gasket. It was leaking around the back of the pan and the old cork gasket had all dried out. I replaced it with a rubber gasket with a steel core. Anyway I noticed after I put it all together again the oil pan is just barley touching the cross member now. Not a big deal but I am thinking just the little thicker gasket has moved the pan closer.

Does this mean my motor mounts are going or need to be replaced? The block is a 69 302 block and the cross member is stock in the stock location. The pan is also stock.

I am thinking it will touch more when the engine starts to rock. ;)

Thanks
Darryl

Is the trans in? I noticed my 390 was touching the crossmember but after installing the trans I'm guessing it raised the rear as it wasn't touching anymore.

If your trans is in then I'd also take a look at the trans mount.

Yes trans is in, the trans mount is newer as I put that in when I put in the T5 which was about 6 years ago or 5,000km. I have no idea how old the motor mounts are that is why I suspected them but I was not sure if they would breakdown over time or not?

I don't think the stock pan with stock motor mounts would touch even if the motor mounts are worn out. Mine didn't anyway. I think you need to get under there and study your situation and see just what might be going on.

Shimming down the crossmember is not safe, and does not let the specially designed tapered bolts work as indended by Ford. The LCA pivot point flexes too much with the stock crossmember in place as designed anyway. The last thing you want to do is start shimming it down with anything . It has to be tight up against the frame.

Shim the crossmember down a 1/32"-1/16" using plate steel preferably. Better yet go opentracker and get their crossmember. I have the same problem with my canton pan. Their crossmember supposedly drops the position down 3/8". Gonna order one in the next week or two.

Groho,

I have Z ray's cross member with a Canton RR pan and RMP motor mounts (installed 1/2" down), everything is pushed back as far as the cross member would allow. The cross member has about 1/8" clearance around the pan before the sump, and about 1/4" clear between the jacking pad and the bottom of the pan. Shifter for the T5 lines up nicely with about a 1/4" trimmed from the opening on the passenger side.

Some day I will post all of these pictures I have heh.
