Does anybody besides me every wonder why they contiune to try to post link to there favorite auction site, you would think after they tried it under one heading and it didn't work they would figure it out. Also why do so many have to list everything they sell in each section? I sure hope the time comes when Bob starts charging them something, just might stop the repetive post every other day same thing over and over.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It seems as though instead of posting directly to the auction of the part they are selling, they just link to E_bay and make you 'search' for their username to find their auctions. I find this annoying because I am always looking for parts for my cars and I search the classifieds here and auctions. Well it seems as there is no point in doing both because VMF's classifieds are just posts of the auctions I am already going through. It would be nice if all E_bay classified posts dissappeared.

I posted a note about this a couple of days ago... like I said, there is no way to stop it, and it is more annoying than ever now!

Someone would have to sit in front of a computer and sift through every post (moderator), but I'm sure no one would have the time for this.

This is why, in my opinion, people should be able to post whatever they want, and we can either choose to look at it or not.

IMHO I think the way to stop it is to charge those who use the classifids, that would elimante many, there's so many who just register to sell there one car and there out never to be heard from again.

If there were charged a set-up fee to use classifids it would detour some. It would also stop some of repetive post that are posted in every section every other day.

I know we disagree on this issue and thats ok, thats why theres choclate and Vanilla. But what I can't understand is why people think they should be able to pimp there auctions here for nothing? the auction site charges something, the sellar gets something why should Bob help advertize and not get some surport for the site. I'll bet you Bob really does not like to postt his sutle hints about needing some help with cost, He's done so much for all of us already why not get some of those who just are in and out to help as well.

Just my .02

I disagree with charging everyone to use the classifieds. the guys who are making it a "business" to sell alot of parts, yes. What about the guy who just finished a resto and has a few parts left. He's not looking to make a killing on the parts but to help out other VMFers. Why should he have to give up some of his profits when he doesn't post on a regular basis? And just wants to unload his leftovers. And probably won't make much profit anyway. It will push up everyone's prices to cover the post costs.
It will just push me and others to when i'd rather help out the people here. Just my opinion.

I agree, but I'd work it like this. Anyone of tire-kicker status or below gets charged for posting classifieds. Anyone who's an obvious regular can post to their hearts content but no more than 10 posts per month. Folks can buy classified spots at $10 per spot for a two week run. And for $5000 a person can buy addict status and post all they like in the classifieds /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Just my thoughts...

Maybe if Bob had one section just for ehay stuff and if you were interested in posting there you could and if you needed to see what was on ehay you could find it there. That way it would not clog up all the other areas of this fine site.
Just my 2 cents
It could be the ehay outhouse of the VMF.......

I agree with you, a separate section for auctions would be a good idea. To post there you have to pay Bob the posting fee. I don't think $10.00 per post every two weeks is reasonable but, $10 a month for lets say 50-100 post, or $20 for 100-200 post, those would be very reasonable charges in my opinion. I know am committing $10 bucks a month in donations to VMF. Oddly enough that comes out of my listings, and I don't even post them anymore.

I find it as an insult the the sellers think we here are too stupid to search e-hay. I agree that it does get annoying though...

Most of the sellers linking to their auction never bother to look at their own post.....they just post and leave....so the ones guilty of continual posting prob. haven't realized the change yet.....everynow and then one of them does realize that the referneces to the auction site are deleted...and even though it has been over a month now we still see posts come up in the general forum about "what's up with this". There is a learning curve involved with this change and individuals have different ramp up speeds (2 cliques for the price of one:)).....the smart ones (mostly regulars and good contributors) have already started listing thier auction numbers making it easy to find if you want to.....and the users and abusers that have realized they can't just post a link anymore have already started to drop off.

Its all good

What classifieds?? *G*

A couple weeks of 404 errors would be nice...and would free up some bandwidth for the forum...

Then, bring the classifieds back with a shopping cart for a subscription...since Bob obviously has a PP account, this should be pretty easy to implement...

It sounds like there are some good ideas here to resolve the issue, and maybe it will happen, maybe it won't.Until then,I'll still respect Bob's wishes and refrain from any activity that he doesn't want here.I consider myself a guest here and I'm certain I have gained far more from this site than Bob has from me,be it through the sale of a few parts to help fund my hobby,or information from the forum.Anyone who uses this site on a daily basis could send a small donation and still be way ahead.I know I am.At the very least,I always get to enjoy sharing a little gearhead knowledge with everyone, and finding sources and info much faster and easier than anywhere else.My two cents....

I don't know about the suggestions of charging someone to post if they have not reached a certain status. I'm still ranked as a beginner even though I read the Vintage Mustang network several times a week and have done so for several years. I've bought a several thousand dollars worth of parts and a 1968 fastback shell through this site. I've been accumulating parts for a restoration and own 3 fastbacks and 3 convertibles. They all need work but I have 2 sons that enjoy mustangs and work with me on these cars (shells). I've sold less than $50. worth of parts since finding about the network and told a lot of other people about it as a good source for cars, parts and knowledge. I've seen many interesting posts in the forum and comments from extremly knowledgeable VMF members. Yes, I hate to be buried in people just trying to make a killing with inflated prices and abusing Bob's network maybe even using it as a sole source of income. I even buy from but I usually do not from the ads here. I go to and search for what I want to buy. How do you discourage the ones that abuse the network? I don't know! You can make an argument that people needing answers to questions on the forum should pay: and so on and so forth. After all; didn't we all spend a lot of time accumulating the vast knowledge and ability found on this network. To quote another member, just my .02 worth!

While we're at it I would like to see ALL business ads in a separate place where they would be charged for running their ads. After all, when was the last time you saw one of them give away anything. If I was interested in doing business with a business I would simply pick one out of the many ads in magazines. I'd rather give my money to a regular guy who is just unloading parts to finance his projects.
