In an effort to do a little bit of tuning on my Edelbrock 1406, I upgraded the Jets and Rods.

Here's a VIDEO OF THE TUNE

I started with a mild tune that really only turned my 1406 Carb into the 1405. I'll run it like this for a while and upgrade again if needed.

I plan to do a cam down the road, what are you suggestions for a mild Cam?

Yeah, the set up for the 1405 is pretty good. The 1406 is too lean.

As far as a cam goes, talk to several companies techs. You'll get free EXPERT advise. Personally I like Howard's Cams. They're a very well respected, long established companies. Their Ford cams are designed around Ford's larger diameter tappet for a better lobe profile rather then a one size fits all GM profile with smaller diameter tappets.

What great about the 1406 is you can do much of the rod and jet changes on the car. You can get much better at hitting your target tune by installing an 02 sensor and using an AEM gauge, and then making your adjustments based on your readings. Ole skool plug readings work, but it takes more time

I have had several edelbrock carbs. Tuning using their charts is OK but really hit and miss. Finally I got a professional AFR system that can be used in bungs or a device in your tail pipe.
After years of playing around and "tuning" edelbrock carbs I find they really are not a performance carb and most people tune them rich because its easy to tune rich. Changes as per literature really did not improve performance and my AFR reflected these in the seat feelings. If your happy with your upgrades thats excellent but if you want performance try Quickfuel/Holley and invest in a AFR in each exhaust via a bung just after the header.

I would like to upgrade the carb, but I'm mostly limited by funds. Since the car came with this carb, I figured it was cheaper to just tune what I had. However, I have heard a lot about the short falls of these carbs and that I would be better off replacing it with something like a Holley.
I would like to do a Cam, so I'll need to do more tuning with the carb when that happens. Maybe I should upgrade the carb at that time too?

I bought the parts on eBay. Because I am turning my 1406 into a 1405, there's no kit that covers that. Meaning, the sizes I used put me at a stock 1405, all the kits out there assume you already have those Jet and Rod sizes. From here I begin to tune the carb using the 1405 performance kits, I just haven't done that yet.
Unfortunately, buying the parts individually like I did is proportionally expensive, I just couldn't find a cheaper way of doing it without skipping the stock sizes of the 1405 Jets and Rods.
