I went to my first car show with this car, hosted by the Mustang Club of Oklahoma and they told me they took a point away for not having a fire extinguisher. They also explained to me that next year I would not be able to enter their show without one. SOOOO....I bought a H3R HalGuard 1.4 lb extinguisher with a Poly Performance quick release mount:

H3R Performance | HG100B - Halotron Fire Extinguisher - Black

Poly Performance JEEP/TRUCK & BUGGY :: Safety Gear :: Fire Extinguishers & Accessories :: Synergy Suspension Quick Release Fire Extinguisher Mount - 4X4 Off-Road Parts, JK Synergy Suspension Systems, Fox Racing Shox, Beard, CNC Brakes, Johnny Joints®

I mounted it on the floor behind the driver's seat in my '66 Fastback. Just thought I would give people an idea if they were considering buying one.

At the shows I've been to, people always seem to put it at the front drivers side tire like a stop.

Also, I would have told that guy to SHOVE it if they wouldn't allow you to enter next year. If you don't want to have it, they cannot make you. They should just take a way x amount of points.
It's just like them telling you that you forgot to clean the dust out of an air vent so you cannot come next year.

Many car clubs consider a fire extinguisher part of neccessary exuipment on an old car.

tis why I stopped showing my cars...im tired of hearing all their nit picky BS.

about 4 years ago I had 2 of them tying to tell me my 93 was a repaint. the damn thing is untouched and they took points from me to give to his sons freind. thats it I quit after that one.,

forget about the arguements i had on the 70 when they look in the trunk and see the vapor canisters.
i heard everything from nitrous to fuel cells to ether shots

It's a new MCA rule. I've always taken one to shows. It was actually used by somebody at a show one time back in the early '90s. I wasn't near my car at the time, but the extinguisher was at my front tire. From what I understand from the guy that brought my extinguisher back to me, apparently there was a fire at another car a few rows over and he remembered seeing my extinguisher, grabbed it and put it out. It wasn't his car and I didn't think to ask if he had a car or was just visiting the show.

Good rule.

Instead of taking points away, how bout a bonus point!

Anyone that puts on a show should have several large extinguishers on the show field.

I have one in each of my cars...it's not a bad idea with old rubber fuel hoses.

Good call on the bonus point!! I also got a point taken away because I was not a MCA member. Just joined though.

My starter solenoid caught on fire after my grandfather-in-law crossed a couple wires up under the hood. Since then I have added a battery disconnect switch too. That is also a smart idea.

I can understand the emphasis on safety. It's always a good idea to have a fire extinguisher handy. Thanks for sharing this and your mounting solution.

I've heard when showing very old cars, the judges want to see safety glass even though it wasn't invented when the car was built. And I'm not certain, but I think at least some shows will allow hydraulic brake upgrades on cars built with cable brakes.

I like having a fire extinguisher in my car. (Maybe because of that exploding ship I was on back in '89.) I took my Mustang to a club meeting just before stripping it down. One of the women in the club saw my fire extinguisher sitting between the front seats and said, "Oh, look. He's running nitrous!". :)
