The ONLY side pipes that people care about today are {Women}... Sneaking a peek at men in tight jeans! Then as today , some things never change.I am glad I left my 70s items in the rearview mirror.Platform shoes, Bell bottom jeans, Side burns, Side pipes, Polyester sportcoats. Oh My I guess I was part of that rebellious counter culture or Hipsters!!!

Some fads fade over time. Side pipes should be one of them. Leave them in the 70's unless your intent is to recreate a 70's looking vehicle.

As said before the ONLY car that looks cool with side pipes is a Shelby Cobra...... Otherwise, not a fan at all.

Now, side exit exhaust is another thing all together and ALWAYS cool.

Side pipes were all the rage when I was a kid in the 1970s. I knew enough about cars to tell if the side pipes were functional. It became a hobby of mine to look at side pipes in parking lots and I found most weren't even connected. My uncle bought a van with side pipes and they were functional. It wasn't long before my cousin burned her leg on a side pipe getting out of the van. Then the van was gone.

I know its not a "vintage" mustang, but I really dig the look of the 2000's low profile side exit exhaust on the roush mustangs....
I've been really thinking of doing an x-pipe to side exit much like this 1970 below

For those that say exposed side pipes are only cool on Cobras and Vettes, these guys beg to differ. And I'm inclined to agree with them. Doesn't get much cooler than the original definition of a hot rod. View attachment 887961
Those are cool, but I don't know if I'd call those side pipes. Those are commonly known as "lakester headers".

I'm with you there. If I see side pipes, that thing better be a beast. Otherwise it just looks like you're just trying to bring the 70s back.
and what is wrong with that? I am making the theme of my car the 70's which I grew up in. It is funny really, these cars are a birth of the 60's and 70's and every time you drive you are bringing back those years.....they were the best years!!!

I have seen some Mustangs that look very good with sidepipes. The way I see it...if you must have side exhaust, then you may as well run sidepipes...they certainly don't look any worse than the factory rocker trim does anyway.
