Has the factory EVER installed shoulder belts in a 65-68 Vert?

Okay so I caught myself talking out of my arse (as usual) while discussing the shoulder belt conversion I did on my vert with a guy at the last car show. He said that he was looking at another guy's classic convertible and that guy told him that Ford did put shoulder belts in some convertibles but that it was VERY rare. I replied, "Yeah, it was rare... so rare that it never happened".

Problem is that I'm not 100% sure if this is a true statement given the Shelby with roll bar variable. I was (am) under the impression that the Shelby roll bar is not structural and would not present an adequate shoulder belt mounting point.

So, please educate me on this subject. When, if ever, did Ford ever put shoulder belts in a 65-68 Mustang (or Shelby for that matter) convertible?

shoulder ts

Ditto on the "No"! Coupe's & FB's had a spot where they could be mounted, but never used.

Yes. The 68 Shelby(and 69-70 Shelby) had them

I guess he's never seen a Shelby convertible.

a) The Shelby roll bar was not structural in the sense that if you roll the car at 60 mph it won't do you much good. It was, however, maybe 100 times stronger than needed to support a belt.

b) Having said that, I should point out that the Shelby convertible shoulder belt and roll bar had zero zip nada no contact with or attachment to each other.

Thanks for the clarifications regarding Shelby verts. I've seen Shelby verts but it's hard (for a newbie) to identify factory vs. after-market installs. Now I know that the factory did install shoulder belts on some (all?) Shelby verts and on no standard Mustang verts.

68 Shelby

22GT- remember they called it a SURF BOARD RACK, not a roll bar! kept them from problems if it rolled & the bar collapsed
