Just a Noob thought. I spend a lot of time reading the forum, and as a Noob, have a zillion questions which I could annoy the snot out of everyone with, but instead try using the search section to find out information, but still have questions. Some things that I've had are questions on Scarebird or Disc Brakes, Leaf Spring Replacement, Differential Rebuilding, etc to name just a few. Hemi-Killer, John Pro, and others have been very helpful both online, and offline, but I was just thinking that if we started another thread that we could post the How to's with sticky notes, IE, under the How to Section, you could have

  • Front Brakes, Sub Cat Disc or Drum, Sub Cat Model Year
  • Rear Brakes, Sub Cat Disc or Drum
  • Front Suspension
  • Rear Suspension

etc, and could further break it out below as Specific model year stuff. I get frustrated trying to determine if what I'm reading applies to my 72 as well as your 65/66. This way hopefully we could take advantage of the knowledge you pro's have and ask for clarification rather than beating the same dead horse. Just a thought, but I'd be curious what everyone thinks.

Wow, thanks for the post with the search tips (as he clicks another bookmark)!

Have those search tips been posted somewhere else? Here's why I'm asking. When I first started using VMF search I navigated to "HELP > FAQ > How do I Search the Site?" There's a couple of generic comments but nothing specific.

The basic search tips could be cut/pasted into to the FAQ in a few minutes! They'd be a real help to novices like me who are willing to do their homework before bugging you guys and gals.

There is a Mustang "FAQ" page out there. Started mainly by some folks from another forum. Unfortunately it seems to have been abandoned. I thought it was a great idea and attempted to contribute to it but my efforts apparently were ignored. I don't think it was personal since nothing else on it appears to have been updated in a year or more.
Check it out here.
If I knew how to set up/administer/host such a thing I would be happy to do so. I know there are people here who could. Anybody know who "owns" this FAQ? I never got an answer to my emails to the "webmaster" on the page.

That forum/how to was a lot of help this weekend when I changed out my leaf springs. I had read it a while ago. and whoever DChabot is I owe them a beer. They described how to get the eyebolt out if it is frozen in place, and lemme tell you, after fighting with a rented sawzall, a torch, etc, I decided to go low tech and use their method of a sleeved nut threaded onto the end of the eyebolt and another bolt against the frame. Link Inside of 5 minutes, the eyebolt popped right out, and I was on my way. Thanks to Hemikiller for the guidance to replace the springs, I went with 4 1/2 mid-eye, and the rubbing problem is gone for good, although I wish I had followed the advice of putting Lithium on the shackles as I am squeaking like new sneakers on a basketball court. At least getting the shackles off now should be easy!

And Shaummy, no offense was taken, or thought to be implied, I appreciate the search tips, and will be using them often. Next up will be replacing my clutch as the throw-out bearing is singing to me!

On the advanced search page, if you click the http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/skins/vmf/help.gif icon next to where it says "Keywords" that whole thing is written out verbatim. Hope that helps.

My experience is that the + operator in a search seems to not necessarily work properly.

It might be when I search for more than two terms, actually.

I don't have a specific example, but in the past I've manually found posts that did not show up in my properly formatted search. I'm a good speller and an ex Bell Laboratories software geek, and I'm pretty sure this search engine has some weaknesses. I suppose I ought to document the problems I find and forward them to Bob but that takes so much TIME!!! I'll do it next time I get a concrete example.

I understand the original posters desire for a FAQ area, unfortunately I also understand the logistical and potentially legal issues involved.

Over at fordmuscle.com they have something called the "monster C4 thread" which is stickied to the top of their world. I have often thought similar threads would fit that same mold in the VMF.
