Is there a way to tell if a car is a True GT and hasn't just had the gt options added to it?

There is a 65 fastback "a" code for sale locally. Although I am not in the market and don't have the money I am gonna go look at it tomorrow (if its still there) Its' only $25k which I dont think is bad if it is what it says it is...

Probably the most definitive things to verify that it WAS a factory GT are the factory-installed reinforcement plates for the exhaust hangers, under the rear seat bottom, and the "anti-crush" inserts in the frame rails for the tailpipe hangers. Other than that, factory punched holes in the core support for the fog light wiring, factory cutout for the speedometer clearance, no holes for side scoops in the quarter panels....there's a lot more, but the first two are easy enough to check. If the guy won't pop the back seat bottom out for you then walk....walk quickly.

The tube inside the rear frame rail for the dual exhaust hanger is the best IMO. The holes for the fog light wires are pretty good indicators. You need to know where they are supposed to be and realize they were stamped, not drilled or cut, at the factory.

Look at the VIN and assembly date if its a real low VIN or built before the middle of feb. '65 or so probably not

Looked at the car today, didn't do a thorough inspection but I don't thinks it's a true gt, I could feel where the filler had sneezed through the rocker molding holes. Still a nice fastback for $25k
