AFAIK if the car has stock wheels that are inside the fenders the max width is about where the door handles are. My 68 has side mirrors so max is at the mirrors.

Greg, I got thinking. The 58.5" is called tread. I think tread is center to center of the tire tread. Kinda like wheelbase is from center of front wheel to center of back wheel.
