Will you be using anything special to lock your mustang while parked at the 50th, especially in the infield...

I am planning on relying on fellow VMFers to keep an eye on Jane! Hope that no one's a bad egg :p

But really, the chances of her getting stolen are... low. I've got a lotta security in that thing because I'm so paranoid!

Over-insure it and leave the keys over the visor?

The most determined thief is going to know ALL the tricks. The quickest, easiest and most effective thing I could think of at this late date would be a non-working, imitation part....battery, distributor cap, rotor, coil wire, etc., removing something and locking it in the trunk, etc., battery, shift lever, part of carburetor linkage, etc.

If there was more time there are much more elaborate, yet effective, methods to disable the car and protect it against the quickest theft methods.... jumper wires, spare parts, etc.

Use two kill switches, one main in the trunk or where ever, and the second in an easy location for you but not obvious to others. Shut the first main one in the trunk off when you feel the need. That way whether your at a show or with friends and the main in the trunk is on just flip the second one on and start it without giving away where the main shut off is located.

If I was a thief wanting to steal me a Mustang, I'd carry the following items in my little bag of "goodies"....

1. A heavy-gauge cable with spring clips about 12" long. (To connect the battery to the solenoid).
2. A light-gauge wire with spring clips about 24" long. (To run from the battery to the coil+).
3. A coil high-tension lead.
4. A distributor cap and rotor.
5. A set of points and condenser.
6. A roll of primary wire, a roll of mechanics wire, and a roll of PVC tape.
7. My "tools".

I could probably drive your car away in under a minute.

Got to my first hotel last night. I asked the clerk where the best place to park where the security cameras were aimed for starters. I removed the steering wheel (9 bolt) and the rotor and put a cover on. I never leave mine unattended for long but if you want to enjoy activities like the 50th you must take the risk. Insure the crap out of it and cross your fingers.

I had a 70 convert when I was 18 that was a really nice car, for an 18 year old. I never felt comfortable parking and leaving it unattended for hours on end. I always had to take a walk back just to make sure it was there and nothing wrong with it and could never have a good time. I grew up in Baltimore so me and my buddy would go to Ocean City, Md. 4-5 times a summer. I hated parking it in parking lots down there, never had an issue though. do any of you feel that way?

Ya it's a sickening feeling especially when ya go out and it's gone. This was my car back in 72. It had 5000 miles on it. The tricks everyone talks about will help keep some away from taking it. BUT now when ya can back a wrecker up to it an drive away without even getting out of the truck welllll. Have fun guys at the 50th.

I was going to leave my car unlocked with the windows down for easier viewing with anything of value locked in the trunk... but now that New Yorkers are coming... :p

In all seriousness... are we talking about being in the actual show or after you leave (go to the hotel, etc.) because at the actual show I really do plan on leaving the car "open." Maybe I won't in the MORE lot... as you can come and go as you please. If it was in the track you can't leave before 5... so as long as I was back to the car by 5, no one could take it and leave?

I'd be a lot less worried about the car getting stolen and a lot more about it getting damaged by people touching it/ leaning against it/ accidentally brushing it / etc.
