Would like everyone's thoughts on dynamat or any other sound dampening materials. Is it worth a $350 kit for a car not used as an everyday driver? And how much improvement does the trunk noise reduction kit give?

Might also try searching here. This one has been covered several times. Good luck.

From what some of the more experienced people on this site say is that just by adding back and replacing all the factory sound dampening and factory insulation that has been either missing and ditched over the past 40+ years will do wonders alone.

I plan on doing that after I put the factory underlayment material on, I just it put on the seat pan tops and trans tunnel top.

I went with fat mat on mine. Don't bother with a precut kit, by rolls and cut it yourself. Way cheaper, and not hard to cut at all.

I went with fat mat and works really good. Heard good things about b-quiet too. But, I also added the foam to put under the carpet/top of mat and keeps it a bit quieter. Sound cancelling headphones work too. LoL

I literally just did this on my '67 daily driver fastback over the weekend. I installed a single layer of Second Skin sound deadener both on the floor pan and in the trunk, then two layers of their heat insulation material over the trans tunnel and the floor pan. The difference is night and day and definitely worth it for a daily driver.

I agree, until you've been in a hardtop that's had all the stuff replaced (that was pulled out by 40 years of teenagers) it's hard to appreciate how quiet these cars can be inside. These things had sound deadener pads in places most folks don't even realize, such as the backs of the kick panels, under the rear seat, under the package tray, etc.

I dunno, I kind of like hearing the road noise, engine noise, and exhaust in these cars.

If it's not a daily driver, I'm not sure I'd bother.

And if you're not sure about the $350 price tag, just buy some frost king duct insulation. It's cheap and will do 75% of the sound and heat insulation for 10% of the price.

Use the frost king for the floors or door panels , but I used dynamat for the roof , just to be sure it would stay there, when the temps got over 100 degrees. JMHO

I used a water-based bedliner on the interior floorpan and then Frost King (2 layers in many areas) and then layer of Reflectix over that. I agree with dieseldude above comments and don't recommend using Frost King on the roof. Stuff doesn't stick as well as the high dollar stuff. No biggee for floor but I think it would likely sag over time if installed on the roof.

A factory big block in a conv, no such thing as noise reduction. lol

That's true. But even in a convertible, I wouldn't go beyond the factory sound deadener until all of the factory stuff was installed. That includes a heavy coat of spray-on material in the doors and quarters.

One of the features of the Grandé and mach1 was an extra 55 pounds of this stuff in every car. Leaving this out after repair is an invitation to noise.

I was considering this in my mustang as well, until I used this type of sound deadener in my honda. It added a lot of weight to the car, which might nto be a concern of yours. I am currently considering the lizard skin spray sound deadener and the lizard skin ceramic heat spray.

So I had bought a trunk mat to replace the plaid (I know it's replica of original but I didnt like it) and decided to pull it up today to see if there was any deadener at all in the trunk. My project list got a little longer after I did that. Any ideas where to start in cleaning the chipping paint and gunk? And there is a rust spot I found near the wheel well.....
