First, a little update
While waiting for one of my Techs that works for me to help with the rewiring of the Clone Vert (see sig photo), I decided to finish up the interior -except for wiring in the dash..

Installed new Shelby vert rollbar.
Mounted three point belts using roll bar as one of the points.
Fitted the 95 Cobra buckets and ran wire for the lumbar.
POR'ed the floor.
Will be laying "dynamat" and foil faced underlayment then carpet and seats and rear int quarters this weekend.

OK Thanks for your patience. Here's the cold feet part...
It's a 68 Clone with 67 front fenders and early 68 rear qtrs. (Came that way). Cleaner look, I think.
Since it's red, you won't hardly see the rear reflectors with the body color trim rings.
I'm installing all 67 brushed aluminum in the interior. JME guages and dash set plus JME alum door panels.
I'm doing a hump Hugger console also It will look like this but with a chrome fire extinguisher on a billet mount on the hump in front of a B&M magashifter. http://www.vintage-mustang.com/mow18/pictures/leather2.html
Same steering wheel but with a black leather rim.

The outside look will be as you see it - Very stock but lowered considerably because of the Global West suspension.
Wheels will be Edelbrock 454s like this. http://www.kkpony.com/67-68.html -Click on the blue 67 Shelby clone fastback.
The padded Shelby rollbar is canted back just a little to get rid of that bolt upright look. (matches the door opening angle)

OK, So am I going to make Mustangers puke at the cruise-ins or will it evoke comments like "Cool Restomod, Dude !"

I like the brushed aluminun look. Yes, it may look like a T-bird throwback but the "woodgrain" makes me ill. I'm considering 68 door handles. If you look at the reason why people have to replace the door panels, it's because of the scratches from their rings.

Engine compartment will look pretty much like Jays - http://www.classic-mustang.net/jay/
-click on 67 vert -engine bay -the latest pics
It will have a chrome monte carlo bar and aluminum radiator.
351W dynoed at 375hp 418 lb-ft torque, TCI AOD, 2800 rpm custom torque converter, 9" rear, 3.70-1 gears SSBC brakes front and rear and a total Global West suspension.

Sounds GREAT to me, like Frank you did it your way. IMHO thats the most important thing, do the car your way to hell with the local cruizers or any of us for that matter.

To me your plan sounds very good, now for my .02 I think in a car like you've discribed a hump hugger type console dosn't work, just a little too conservative I think. If it were me and it was I would do something custom. I struggled with this for a long time and finally came up with design that I thought worked, in fact I would like to someday market them, but not today. If you like PM me and I will try and send you photo's.

I also like the JME dash stuff but the door panels are alittle much IMO, unfortuatlly not much out there. Just alittle too loud.

Can't wait to see photo's and hopefuly in person some day!!

"Mustang Blasphemy or Restomod Faux Pas?"

None of the above, IMO.

The car is, after all, a clone. If it had started life as a real Shelby or even one of the rarer Mustang models, I might have a problem with this. Since it is a restomod, do whatever suits your tastes.

You'll find out just how much the treatment appeals to others if you go to sell the car. If done well, the car will probably be a hit with most.

I say go for it.

I like it!!! I like it!!!

Reads like you are definately heading in the right direction for sures. Of course I lean towards the restomod mentality anyways. Here is the paradox, however....you hate wood grain, and I'm using all the woodgrain I can get on mine, ie., GT features, woodgrain trim on console, and pony handles, and the steering wheel. Maybe my woodworking background has something to do with that. I did see a Ford pickup at the car show with real wood grille, bumpers and tailgate...(peuuukkkke!!!/forums/images/icons/tongue.gif)

Keep up the nice work snakeoil.

Since you asked....

I totally dislike the braided hose/chrome export brace/chrome hood hinges/chrome carburetor/Plastic-snake-on-the-air-cleaner/Street Rod look... I prefer a clean, functional, "race prepared" modifications, vintage racer clone style.

I find the Global West suspension and the "Humphugger" console contradictory... /forums/images/icons/laugh.gifAre you gonna sip coffee while on the track???/forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

But my tastes aren't yours..... By all means, carry on!

Dan, I think your doing a great job.....I'm a little biased... I've basically gone down the same road as you are. Yeah, I used to worry a little about the purists....But I knew from the beginning that I'd never be able to compete in that type of class. Plus whenever I'd go to a show I was making a b-line for the custom stuff. Thats what I've always enjoyed. Concoures is nice....and I'll get flamed for this....but if you've seen one...... get my drift.
Not that I don't appreciate their direction... but its not for me.
I "love" imagination! Love to see what ideas guys have come up with.I'd love to have some time to "climb " all over Jay's vert! (He's my hero) LOL..... heres another nice touch you can add... I added and wired up a lighted rearview mirror out of a 90 mustang Vert to mine. Turned out to be a neat little touch.
So far I think you've been very tasteful on your Mod's... Keep up the good work!

Sounds like a great combination of parts and ideas. Please post a pick of how the rollbar looks when you get it all done.

I would call it a nice modified mustang. Its not a clone since you are not trying to duplicate anything, you just happen to like some of the same parts that appeared on a shelby, but your not trying to fool anyone. As for restomod your only Faux Pas was not going far enough!

Death to carburetors!!!
