PS Hose routing 65' mustang

I have a 65 coupe, V8 with PS. The original control valve was leaking so i replaced it with one from a scrapyard from a FB, and i switched around some of the hoses because i figured the ones from the junker looked better. The inlet hose ruptured and i purchased a new concourse correct 289 PS hose, but i couldn't fit it like the ones i removed (took a picture before taking the old off)

Now i have it routed so that the hose is bend, enough so that at low rpm i have no pressure and no power steering, until i thump the gas and the increased pressure expands the hose

WELL-----

Only for sure thing is, this will be blowing Fluid out very quickly with the hoses installed like this.

View the pictures of the Factory original 65 66 V8 hoses on the original, and then the aftermarket hoses on the rebuilt unit.

Hoses cannot be mounted on the control valve with the unit on the car.

Take off the unit, (I'd say rebuild it), install All new hoses (Those are bent severly), hang back in, and you will have a no leak, excellent power steering.

Dan, I wish you'd told me that before all those times I did it.

You're right, though, in that it's difficult to do, and requires unusual or modified tools. A real pain. The most important part is having correct parts. Most of whats available today is dreadful. The so-called OE-correct hoses offered by typical auto parts chains are bent so poorly that the steel tubes bash into the Pittman arm if you can install them at all.

This is a classic case of "you get what you pay for". Cheap hose=bad fit.

So, take two. Fitted the hose on the table before mounting the rack to the car.

This is the result, this is taken from a downwards angle so it does appear that the tube is hitting the pitman arm but it's not, barely clears it. I've looked when turning full left and full right (lifed off the ground no pressure in the system) and it still clears, my question is once on the ground and with pressure in the system will it move left or right?

Having read similar posts on other forums, I think a safe bet is going to try and jack up the front end and and see if the angle helps bleed the system better when turning lock to lock

Read in mustang monthly that bendix pumps and sagninaw should work just fine with dexron III rated oil

Ford Mustangs Installing Power Steering Hoses - Mustang Monthly Magazine
The writer, NON experienced person that wrote "Older spec fluids, such as Dexron III, work quite well in Bendix and Saginaw power-steering systems is A IDIOT!'

There is no such thing as Bendix, or Saganaw Pumps, all 65-73 were Thompson/TRW (Same pump).

Yes Mustang Monthly, Please call me--You are leading many Folks astray here.

Next, Burping the system to "Get more air out" is a Time wasting effert. GO Drink a beer or something, it will be more productive.
