H gang! I have a strange additional pulley on the nose of my crank damper. I have a 68' coupe with a C code 289, built Dec.67'. The Harmonic Balancer is 6313-3A if I read it correctly. The center is recessed about 2 inches and the face is a 3-bolt pulley pattern, and the pulley bolts to the face,BUT there is another plate bolted to the front of the pulley. This plate has a plug that fits the damper recess. It has 3 plate extensions attached to it and these are attached to second 6-1/2'' diameter pulley that sets about 4 inches from the damper face. This pulley has been drilled for balancing. My question is has anyone run across this, what is it ? It doesn't seem to be located right to drive anything but a supercharger! Does this act as an external balance for the crank? If not, can I remove this appendage if I can find a shorter crank damper bolt and washer. Sorry for the long winded post, but I don't have a digital cam or scanner ( one picture is worth a thousand words in this case) Thanks in advance for your wisdom. John

If I have to guess, I'd say perhaps a PO installed an aftermarket accessory (possibly a s/c) and had to use a different dampner bolt. Most likely, the original bolt was misplaced (not uncommon)and the only way to make it work, was to leave this appendage on since w/o it, the bolt would be too long. I think I can confidently say it has nothing at all to do with engine balancing, but pics would help explain a lot. Hope this helps
