I'm curious as to how the trunk drop downs and rear wheel wells should be as well. If anyone could add those pics I would appreciate it. I am doing my 65 in red oxide as well and not sure how far to go with the sound deadener on the wheel wells. In Pete's photo it appears the drop downs are red oxide and the sound deadener is exclusive to just the outer wheel well.

Thank you, imcobra. I had to double check my Osborn manual to confirm no seam sealer was used at the seams of the frame rails and drop downs/ect and sure enough I don't see where it would have been instructed to do so. I might seam seal those with paintable seam sealer and reprime over it for a little more protection when I get that far.

So true. My car isn't concourse anyways I think I might just put one coat of epoxy down, then seam seal, and then coat over everything with some more red oxide to pretty it up. There is just too much dust, dirt, road debris, ect to get trapped and work their way into the seams. Add moisture to that and we know the end result.

Just doing a '68 coupe. Red oxide the complete underside, interior, front apron outers, and all of the rear wheel wells.

Front aprons get seam sealer, and sound deadener with a quick spray for and aft of the shock towers but not in the mounting well where the UCA goes.

Black will go over the engine bay and aprons, sprayed down into the tunnel, a feathered edge wherever the gun can get to from leaning into the engine bay while spraying the firewall. Whatever overspray goes onto the mounts for LCA, strut rods, underside etc. will be whatever it is.

Rear wheel wells will get a total coating of deadener, then body overspray wherever it goes.

Overspray under the car wherever it goes as the sills/rockers are painted. Then pinch weld blackouts.

Think the result will look good and be "similar" to original.

Original "red oxide" varied over the first few years, and had a slight gloss. Not all cars got it.

Some used "slops grey" (a wide range of colors as spare paint was tossed in the mix) some used black and some red oxide... forget which years/plants each was used in... sure someone with a better memory can chime in...
