Hi, Guys

Do you have any suggestions for the drivers seat I'm 6'4" and am cramped in my 65 and 68 fastback I guess they wer made for shorter people. If anyone has done anything to fix this let me know anything would be better than this. Thanks for your time.

You can search here but the two primary fixes are as follows:

1) Modify the seat tracks to allow the seat to move back about an 1" or more. Pro: no modifications to the car. Con: the issue here is the track may overhang the seat riser hump. Others have said this is not a problem, but I say tall people tend to wiegh more.

I think I have some original Ford instructions on this change.

2) Modify the seat hump istelf. Cut the seat riser and remove and inch, lowering the seat and moving it back. M+ has a how to in the catalog. Pro: Lot's more leg and head room. Con: You make a major modification to the car. Requires cutting and welding.

I will likely do option 1 at some point but I am only 6' 2" and it is not that bad.

I did John's fix that is linked here. It was easy to do and added over 2" of leg room.

Also did John's easy seat track mod and got 2" more legroom... lots easier than moving sheet metal on the floorpan!!

I have a convertible and I am 6.4 . I took 2 inches off of the floor humps . I had to do alot of fabrication would have been alot easier on a fastback . It made for alot more room . I did not see a reason to move it back on top of that . My biggest problem was haveing enough room under the steering wheel to raise my leg up enough for the clutch peddal .

Here's another approach...

Shim the front of the seat 3/4" to 1". This produces a more reclined position. This has a significant impact on both legroom and headroom. Your hips move back slightly, your knees move up (requiring more bend), and your head moves back and down. You get legroom, headroom, and reach to the wheel all in one motion. It's more comfortable, too.

Downside is the wheel clearance issue. Smaller wheel and/or tilt wheel is the solution there.

I'm 6'2" and the way I took care of the problem was to remove the seat track and bolt seat to two approx. quarter inch thick three or four inch wide strips of steel that I cut a little longer than the seat is, front to back. Bolted these tracks to seat (now have all the head room I need)and moved seat back where I wanted it for more leg room. Bolted track to floor. Done! I can't adjust the seat but no one else drives the car anyway. If and when I sell it, I'll bolt the original track back in. Mark
