No injuries, Pizza Boy (Domino's) while making a high speed turn in from the street, plows into my Mach I driven by my son, on the LF wheel in the Parking lot. LF corner is toast, from hood down, LF wheel leaning horrible, chin spoiler hanging sadly underneath. Core support bent, left front inner panel bent, whole front leaning right. Pizza boy's car (Honda Del Sol) is totalled. Mach is a rust free, nice looking car, with 351-4V Cleveland, FMX, Chin spoiler, factory scoop, original window louvers, etc. All sheet metal FORD original. Over 10K in the mechanical restoration alone, and car is good enough to win small trophies in local events. Damage is adding up fast, and may trigger a total estimate! AAARRRHHH !

Do NOT total it! Atleast if you do, buy it back and fix it! Im so sorry to hear about this. I own a mach 1 myself and would be torn apart if someone hit me! I hope you dont decide to get rid of it, because you will regret it later ::.

DON'T let them total it! You should be able to get an appraisal for much more than what the ins. company says it is worth. Make that little %^@#$ pay for it, maybe even sue Dominos since he was on duty. Whatever it takes, fix it!

Just my 2 cents.

:: :( ::
You didn't mention injuries to humans, so I'm guessing the only serious damage was to car. My sympathies. Was Pizza Boy insured??? I'd be looking to have someone pay to make it right, no matter what the cost. My .02, but I'm sure you've already been there. Don't let them total it!

See if you can get around a "salvage title" at all costs! Those things are the devil
A salvage title would not ever be desirable, but it would not be as big a deal with a "classic" car as it would be with regular transportation, IMHO. Many of the sharpest cars around were junk before their restoration started. :)

By the way, a salvage title doesn't really bother me in daily drivers, either, because I'm not worried about trade-in value. I buy 'em to drive 'em. We have owned three, and got more than our money's worth out of them.

That's really a shame but at least no one was hurt. Try to work out the best deal possible without totaling it (if they are willing) and don't let them tell you which shop to take your car to.

So when is Piza Boy's funeral? So we can all send him flowers.
Depending on your insurance, IF they "total " it, you can buy the car back for 10% for its insured value, and have money to fix it up, while your attorney sues Pizza Boy's estate.

For all of you out there on the board that may find themselves in this situation you should know the following. The insurer does NOT have the legal right to take your car then sell it back to you with a salvage title. The insurer of the at-fault driver has ZERO legal rights to determine what happens with your car. The insurer of the at-fault driver does NOT legally represent the at-fault driver and has no legal rights to negotiate a settlement on their behalf because they are not lawyers. The at-fault party owes the “difference in value between the vehicle just prior to the damage and just after.” In other words what pizza boy owes is the pre-accident appraisal value minus its current value. The insurer has no legal right to take the title or the car or damage your title.

I had 2 wrecks last year 1st was a hit and run that my insurance Co. paid the claim. Not 3 weeks out of the shop and a girl pulls out of a side street right in front of me (20') and it had just finished a lite drizzle of rain. (which makes Florida ice on the road) Her Insurance Co. paid the total repair and the rental car and a change order Total payment was $13000.00. Go after the pizza boys insurance co.

I'm guessing the pizza company is liable for the actions of their employee--and hopefully for your sake, they'll be out some serious dough. (Sorry I couldn't resist.) Glad that everyone is OK.

In any event, be sure and insist that not some ordinary paint & body shop do the work--insist on a top-notch, professional resto shop to get the car back to the way it was. Threaten legal action if they refuse initially. Most likely shortly thereafter, you'll get their authorization for the resto shop.

Arent there laws like after 3 changes of owners it has to be destroyed or something? (with a salvage title)
I can't say for sure that that's not true, but I have not heard that before. I imaginge laws vary from state to state, though. My first experience with a salvage title vehicle was a 1985 GMC s-15 pickup that I bought with 9,000 miles on it for $4200 (in 1987). I drove it more than 100,000 miles before I traded it in. Since then, we have owned two other salvage title vehicles that ended up getting totaled again. :eek:
In both cases, the insurance company was very fair.

Isn't it wonderful that the only criteria for getting a driver's license is to be 16 and breathing......
