Turn signal cancel cam replacement?

So it's 2021 and all parts are junk.

When I had the column apart I thought it would be a good idea to replace the turn signal switch. It was, after all, 56 years old.

Now a few hundred miles later the canceling cam has broken.

Looking at the fastener for the cancelling cam, I don't see how to remove it and replace it.

I forget where I got this turn signal switch. If I had to guess, it's a Drake.

No idea what steering wheel installation you have, but....

At one time I was using a Grant steering wheel hub with the roll pins that are supposed to kick the turn signal cam off. They damaged my cam. I eventually ditched the roll pins and used the stock formed sheet-metal thingy instead. I found that it would clamp onto the Grant hub and was much more gentle on the plastic cam.

The old cancel cam kits came with a new rivet or pin and washers and such
I have seen them repaired and are still out there working a little
The levers are loose and no crisp click when using cancelling
Try to find a new old stock switch is what I would do
You could try to have Drake warranty the part
You could look for and buy a lifetime switch from checkerpepzone

I agree. I dont see how that clip they provide could work on the peened over stem that's there now. I was thinking maybe the OEM switch wasn't peened over.

What a bummer. That switch was maybe 300 miles old. Is everything junk now?

Looking at NOS switches, it appears you have to carefully cut off the retainer without damaging the rivet. Swap the cam, then press on the new clip like myfirstcar66 posted.

I looked at pics of both Daniel Carpenter and Scott Drake switches and neither have a clip like yours. No idea what brand it is.

Thanks!

I know how to swap the whole switch. I was wondering, since they sell replacement cams, is it possible to replace them,
