Which rack and pinion do you prefer between UniSteer and TCP and why? I own a 67 Mustang GTA with the 390 big block. I'm thinking of running FPA or Hooker Long tube headers. I also wanted to know if I can run shorty headers instead of long tube headers on this motor?

I haven't kept up on recent changes, but I did look into this in the last couple of years. You should be able to find a few posts on here with people discussing this, but I would recomment you specify whether you're looking for a power or manual rack. I recall poor reviews of the Unisteer manual rack, but most people seem to really like TCP once they get past the price tag. And it seems Unisteer is more likely to require fiddling to install. Again, this could be old info, and I'm sure there are more recent posts on the topic as well.

I have the TCP power rack and love it. The one thing to keep in mind if you are going power with the TCP is to keep the remote reservoir up as high on the inner fender as possible as the -10 AN hose needs a straight as possible run to the pump with no bends otherwise you will get some squealing when you turn the wheel at a standstill. No squealing when driving. If you go with the TCP integrated reservoir for the pump you won't have that issue, but you if you have AC than that will be an issue.

It's always a trade off.

The Unisteer rack mount is thick plate steel and also serves as a chassis cross member, as it is solidly bolted in using the cross member bolt holes. In stock form, the rack mount will block the lower camber adjustment, but that can be easily fixed.

I have a unisteer power set up on my 69 with a 390 with long tubes. Absolutely love it. Great feel and install was pretty easy, but I also replaced my steering column as well. Plenty of room and I had to modify the holes for the lower camber adjustment bolts. Just took it to someone that had the means to cut a slightly bigger hole and now have no issues.

I have the unisteer power rack on a 65. The newer unisteer steering shaft hugs the frame as opposed to the first model which didn't, and wasn't good for header clearance. I have hooker 6901's that fit with it no dramas, plenty of clearance.
The rack is fantastic so far.

All,
Thank you for the information so I guess I left out some vital information. The Car is a 67 GTA with the 390 it has power steering, AC and the tilt-away steering column. I can say I do not want to remove the tilt-away steering. With all that said will both the unisteer and TCP work. I was told the unisteer with the long tube hooker headers work well together. I was also told that the TCP (expensive) works well with the FPA long tube headers.

I have a manual TCP rack, FPA long tube headers, cable actuated clutch. It's been great!

One note, I did add an electric power steering conversion, cause I got tired of fighting the car in parking situations. Definitely not the most economical way to have power steering, but it works.

I'm also interested in using the stock pump as the one Unisteer provides is loud and squeals when you turn the wheel while the car isn't moving. I have one of the original racks and had to buy Hooker Super Comp headers to clear.
