I have a usa 6 model, 2 months old. The volume dial does not work, it just spins freely which is a real PITA. I called the hotline, and had to leave a message with no response yet. With all the car shows starting, I really don't want to remove this thing and send it to California for repair. An suggestions or has anyone had a similar problem. I know i'm grasping at straws, with the most likely answer "pull the radio and send it back" I'm hoping for an easier / quicker solution. Thanks!!

I have yet to read a positive review of anything made by Custom AutoSound. Based on my own personal experience, they're completely unreliable and a general waste of money. As poor as their head units are, their speakers are even worse. Your best bet is to cut your losses and purchase something altogether different. Don't waste your time having it repaired.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Custom AutoCrap. I bought that piece of junk just before I heard what a waste they are. Not even 3 weeks old, the thing just stopped working. Period!. They told me to send it back and they would repair it. I told them No Dice. I will send it back and they will send me a new one. I paid for a stereo, I expect it to last more than a month. After much haggling, bi*ching and a call to my CC company, I finally got my money back on it. I went with a Pioneer that I custom installed myself.

Custom AutoCrap = Big fishing line sinker :puke:

I haven`t ever heard anything good about them either. They Look nice though...
I`m going to use a system like Hoosierbuddy`s with a rotary commander mounted on the steering column most likely.

A year ago (May 04) I bought a Custom Auto Radio. About two months later is quit working. So I emailed the company and they gave me a number to call. I had to leave a message. Called twice and left two messages. As of this day they have no answered me! By surprise it started working on its own again. I don't know how long it will last but when it quits for good that will be it with Custom Auto Sound. It is, however, difficult to find a radio that will fit in the dash of a 65. Any ideas? No I don't want to do the glovebox deal or anything fancy. Just a normal radio.

Anyway no more Custom Auto Radio for me!

Alternate radios to replace USA that will fit 65-66:
Kenwood, Jenson, and Ken Harrison. I have a Ken Harrison in
the 68 and a Jenson in the 66 neither experienced problems(so far). Check MU and Virginia Mustang catalogs.

Ryan your post is six years too late to help anyone!
I had purchased the same unit six years ago.. it barely lasted one summer..I wasnt expecting audiophile sound quality however I was expecting it to last longer than one summer for the price... same as the others phone call after phone call went unanswered. then i found the forums on here describing the problems with it and just gave up kept the dead unit in the dash and bought a nice panasonic head unit for the glovebox... lesson learned after six years its still rocking! your company wont ever get one cent of my hard earned cash! Piece of junk i wouldnt recomend to anyone!
says a lot too when you cut and paste the same form letter in 5 different areas on here.

I have worked on some CA units, especially the USA-66. One of them was actually defective, and was replaced. The others had all been wired improperly by the owners of the cars. Re-routing the connections brought them right up.

No one should expect a radio that costs a few hundred bucks to blow the glass out of the rear window.

In the concours forum a similar 2007 thread was resurrected. This is a little confusing as some are answering/following both.

I'm not sure what happened to mine, bought it last spring and lasted a week, now the background light stays on all the time, even when the radio is off. I suspect it was a short somewhere. I got through to a tech person who said I blew a diode and need to return it to have it fixed, not covered under warranty. That was last spring, it is still in the car. She didn't say how much it costs.

Never had a problem installing other radios.

I seriously wonder about how people install these things... That or I got the only good one. I've had my USA-6 for 4 years now, use it everytime I drive the car (almost daily, it is my daily driver), and I have NEVER had a problem yet. I got it, their 10 CD changer, their dual core front dash speaker, and their dual core 6x9 speaker (dash speaker from a Nova), and an iPod plug in, all at the same time, January 2007.
